Koine Greek is not a dead language because Koine is not a language like Latin but rather a dialect of Greek like Cockney is to English. A modern Greek speaker (Dimotiki) can understand Koine with as much ease as an English speaker from the Deep South could read and understand Shakespeare.

Regarding Greek spoken by the Latins.
Scholar's are of the opinion that Julius Caesar's last word to Brutus may have been in Greek and not in Latin. Caesar fell at the feet of a statue of Pompey and his famous last words are variously reported as:
Kai su, teknon? (Greek, "And thou, my son?")
Tu quoque, Brute, fili mi! (Latin, "You also, Brutus, my son!")
Et tu, Brute? (Latin, "You too, Brutus?", the version reported by Shakespeare in his play Julius Caesar.)

The handpicked audiences who have seen the film defend it as the most moving, reverential -- and violent -- depiction of Jesus' suffering and death ever put on screen. Its detractors, who have read a script but not seen the film, say it is a modern version of the medieval passion plays that portrayed Jews as "Christ-killers" and stoked anti-Jewish violence. These people are shameless. Then again, is it Mel Gibson they hate, or someone else?
"You can't buy that kind of publicity," he said.
At least they're playing into Mel's hands (with some divine assistance).

MiraMax's The Magdalene Sisters was released yesterday. Funny how the liberals (like Roger Ebert) take this at face value.

Cardinal Francis George saw the movie. His comments:
"I've read the Passion narratives of the Lord and contemplated them and prayed over them many, many times, and I've never thought of the crucifixion with the images that I received while watching this. I'll never read the words the same way again."
A major reason why the liberals hate this movie. They understand the power of the theater. Paul Johnson says that, historically, the theater has always been at the leading edge of cultural change.
Funny anecdote. I used to teach elementary-age CCD. One day I got tired of the banal teaching materials and took my third-graders over to our beautiful old church. I took them around the stations of the cross, just to look at them. One kid looked at Jesus being crucified and said, "Gee, that must have hurt!"

There are the definite images of a traumatic scourging on the back, chest and legs. The triple pattern of dumbbell shape wounds appear to have been made with a Roman flagrum. It's my understanding that the medievals were unaware of the particular characteristics of the Roman flagrum, thus providing another clue as to the Shroud's authenticity.

A major reason why the liberals hate this movie. They understand the power of the theater. Exactly. Gibson is violating their turf with this movie. They are well aware of the power they have.
Know much about the "the Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies"? All the Catholics I've seen quoted who are part of it are way, way left. One even testified before congress on the claims against the Swiss banks. Are there any conservatives involved?

People will flock to it in droves. My opinion also, and consider me one of the ones to flock to it.
