A friend and Rabbi, who has on occasion had me at his Sader table during Passover, considers this to be a parable AGAINST child sacrifice, and an attempt to put an end to it in the ancient world.

Yes this is what it imeans. The whole history of ancient Israel is precisely one long struggle against certain customs rampant in the ancient neighbouring polytheistic cultures.

It is with Abraham (who was a Sumerian from Ur) that this struggle begins, because it is with Abraham that the making of Israel starts.

A good example is the one of the 'sacred groves'.
This was a long standing polytheistic custom, so much so that in Ge 21:33* it is said Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

However, when the Lord finally made good his promise of a land for his people, he said to Moses (De 16:21*) Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make thee.

I've read that in Carthage (a major power in the world at the time), inheritance and power passed through women rather than through men. I've read that in several primative tribes the Chief would be a man, but that the women of the tribe were the ones who chose which man would be the Chief, and could remove the Chief from his position if he proved incompetent.

And the common denominator of them is that they are either primitive (ie, never developed into a civilization) or were defeated by patriarchal cultures.

In another thread, my essay makes the point that the reason patriarchal cultures finally dominated, is that they gave the males a better incentive to fight for their land and families (because it became THEIRS), and to plan for the future, so as to be able to pass along wealth to kids that they had bonded to as being uniquely theirs

This is a stupid article.

I am a feminist and I don't want to, nor do I, "act like a man". I act like an individual in the freest society ever realized on earth. Period.

You don't have to "act like a man" to be eligible for individual rights and equal treatment under the law.

I don't "work", I have a vocation that I happen to get paid for. I love what I do. I would do it even if I didn't get paid. It's my passion. However, women have always worked and have many have no choice but to work to eat .... they always have. Travel the world and see how many women are working for survival, in places where feminism has never reached. This is a bogus argument. The world over, and throughout history, women only caring for children and nothing else is the exception, not the rule.
