Diane Finkenstein (Demon-CA) tacked a 11th hour (it was at 11 pm the night before the vote) ammendment to the 1986 act that banned further production of fully automatic weapons for sale to the general public. Most of congress didn't even know it was in there.

That is why the MAC-10 I could have bought for $200 plus a $200 tax is now around $3000. It was an Ingram in the original trigger open brief case. There are now 400 thousand machine guns in the USA that a citizen can legally own and the number cannot go up.
