Every time one of our soldiers attacked we need to hit them really hard. I agree, but do we know where they are?

Washington had hoped the deaths of the brothers, killed on Tuesday when 200 soldiers stormed their hideout in Mosul, would end a guerrilla war that has claimed 44 U.S. lives since President Bush declared major combat over on May 1.If our leaders actually believed that, they are living in a dream world. These people won't stop until you kill `em all. They only understand power and violence.
Killing Saddam's sons didn't make the rebels look around and say "hey, they are dead, perhaps we should stop before we end up dead".

Well, a good place to look would be the homes of all the supporters of SH that are doing their "death to American chant", don't you think? :')

Where is General Pershing when you need him?

It seems that most of the soldiers and Marines being killed are mostly engineers, headquarters, and other non-line personnel. Somehow, the muslims know this and attack convoys and isolated individuals traveling in soft-skinned vehicles. They don't have the guts to attack a line company of airborne or marines - they lose 100% of the time. I said it before and I reiterate - we need to bring back the armored quad 50s for the convoys, include a few Bradleys fore and aft, maybe even an Ontos or two, and end these attacks. I doubt very much that the so-called "fedayeen" or what ever they are will have the stomach to take on the quad 50s that were used to devastating effect in guarding convoys in RVN. Our commanders need to ratchet up the level a bit to end these attacks on the convoys.

I think you're referring to the minority. I can imagine that of the 300,000 killed by the regime, most Iraqis witnessed the true brutality of these madmen. These citizens are more than likely appreciative of our presence. I'm afraid you're falling for the hype from the left and their media outlets.

"Every time one of our soldiers attacked we need to hit them really hard. " I think Pontiac's right. Unless you can find the attackers, not just their sympathizes, attacking them creates more sympathizers, especially when there are so many foreigners looking to demonize us. If we simply started demolishing the neighborhoods that attacks were launched from, we'd find ourselves in a war impossible to win.
We're doing exactly what we need to do, and a recent poll shows that 2/3s want us there. Only 11% want us gone immediately. We're training an Iraqi military and police. We're organizing a constitution and elections and hiring administrators while rebuilding and guarding basic services. We're also slowly loosing people in the process. Not to minimize it, but that was expected.

They need to do something and fast. These attacks are not likely to stop until they understand that we will hit back hard & swift

Yeah, you are probably right. I do support the president but I also dread seeing "another soldier dead" every morning when I open free republic. Our military is doing a great job but it angers me to see people that we are trying to help acting this way.

my best friend who is over there is in the battalion 3/327. How do you find out what battalion the men who died were from?

at this point, it would appear that this particular area of the city where this all went down is not too friendly. fly an AC130 over the town for a few nights and blast anything/anyone seen on the streets after dark.

thanks!

That's my opinion, also. Riding in a 2-1/2 ton truck armed only with an M-16 rates a pucker factor of 9. A few armored vehicles could deter these ambushes and make them pay the price when they try. The fedayeen know from experience that the .50 cal and 25mm chain gun are bad news. If some hardened vehicles been included in the convoy with the 507th Maint. Co., the outcome might have been much different.
