I don't understand the digital shoplifting thing. A photo of a photo sounds pretty useless to me

I guess if the bookstores and magazines begin losing money from people "stealing" copyrighted photos and/or stories, they will have a case. Don't know myself, it's just what the story said.

"The problem with a new technology is that society has yet to come up with a common understanding about appropriate behavior,"

"Appropriate behavior" is an entirely subjective standard and attempting to enforce one person's view of it upon another is a form of oppression, which is exactly what I told the guy when he approached me about using my camera phone in the locker room at my gym.

" In Yokohama, Japan, an 18-year-old female store clerk used her camera phone to take a photo of a 38-year-old man who was fondling her on a commuter train. She called police during the train ride and presented her phone shots as evidence. The man was arrested at the next stop."

Love it. Superb use of the technology. Quick thinking on the young lady's part, as well.

Anyone who takes an 'up the skirt shot' or 'over the stall' shot of me will find their camera in a most inconvenient place.

"Superb use of the technology."

Who needs technology? A knee to the groin works just fine.
