I agree. Plus, McClintock needs to protect his senate seat.
Which is too bad, because I like him far more than Issa (who I had serious reservations about, but am now tentatively supporting), but Tom doesn't seem to want it, like you've said from his interviews, and he's really to late to the game, as I've detailed above.
If he keeps his seat in 2004, nomination for any office in the state is his for the asking in 2006.

You denigrate all the voters who bothered to show up last time by saying they won't remember the names McCormick or Simon on ballot as they were just staring at them last fall. Just a thought. LOL

So I think that the day that McClintock actually comes out and says "no, not this time," is the day we see who has the strength and support of the conservatives, Simon or Issa.
And I think that Sal and Bill are going to be quite surprised.

Pop quiz: who was the GOP candidate for Treasurer and Secretary of State?
No cheating!

The problem is, Sal has his own agenda (% of Bill's $$$) and only needs 65 signatures and $3500. to get B.S. on the ballot.
Sal's "never mind the voters, I want mine first" attitude, coupled with access to B.S.'s ("gullible") ears, means the entire Recall effort could be sabotaged before the first vote is cast.
Not just sad but tragic, in the situation we're now in!

If you want to do something helpful, call Russo Marsh and Rogers in Sacramento, and ask Sal Russo not to run a Simon candidacy. Evidently he is not. From this morning's Capitol Morning Report regarding an exchange on TV...and Bob Mulholland is trying to make some hey with it:
From CA Democratic Party advisor Bob Mulholland On CNBC Capitol Report on Tuesday (July 8, 2003), Sal Russo was asked:
Host Gloria Borger: Are you (Russo) representing Simon in this (recall) so he can try for a second time to become Governor?
Russo: No.
Mullholland continues: So, it appears that Sal Russo has dropped Bill Simon as a client (or vice versa). So, when Simon announces for Governor soon, Simon evidentally will have a whole new campaign team. Maybe Simon Russo Photogate was the last straw for Simon with Russo. Contact: 442 5707.
And that is Bob's phone # for future reference if any of you keep such things.

I'll believe it when I see it -- but I still hope that a Simon announcement doesn't happen, so a unified party can win behind a single candidate -- and at this point it could be Issa, Schwarzenegger or McClintock who would get my vote in the Fall.

Simon is using RMR. Stephen Frank, former lobbyist for the Scientologists, will be instrumental in running the campaign. BAD NEWS FOR SIMON!

All the CNBC interview seemingly asked was whether the purpose behind working on the recall was to allow for a potential Simon candidacy, to which he answered that that was not the reason.
He did not say that he was not representing Simon.

Will this be publicly announced soon? (I presume it included officials of a Simon campaign)?
To: research99
Oh of course not. Why face the brunt of the attack, when you can sit idly by, let others take the heat, and then when Kevin Shelly finally announces, announce your candidacy...
This is all based on the premise that having more than one candidate is a good idea. The SacBee says today, "Contrary to what some experts believe...Simon said he thinks a large Republican field of candidates increases the liklihood that Davis will lose."
REALLLLLLLLLLLLY!?!
If 1,000,000 Republicans vote, can someone please explain how having more than one Republican is a good thing?

I know what you're saying. I think Mac's biggest problem would be financing. He has to complete with the three millionaires Simon, Arnold and Issa. But like you, I like Mac the best. We'll just have to wait and see who runs. I know McClintock didn't sound too enthusiastic about running when he was interviewed on the radio here in LA about two weeks ago. I know he would make a great governor or even a state comptroller. I am just glad we got enough signatures for the recall and hope that there are no glitches in the recall/election.

RE:
"Simon said he thinks a large Republican field of candidates increases the liklihood that Davis will lose." Yes this is true, but it avoids the question of, if:
(1) Davis loses the yes/no recall vote, then:
(2) Who will gain the plurality --
One Republican from a field of many, or (potentially)
One Democrat from a unified slate of one?
In other words, maybe this is Simon's cute way of avoiding the question. Keep in mind, this is the guy who won the Primary (with $10 Million worth of help from Gray Davis), only because the opposition was convinced he was the weakest general election opponent -- which he proved to be!

Yes, but you must remember that almost 20% of the CA electorate are registered Independents. And after five years of incompetence by not only Davis but the Dimwit controlled legislature and Senate I believe the majority of Independents who are the deciding voters in CA will be fed up with the left wing taxes, fees, anti-business policies and incompetence. The same goes for Boxer & Difi, they are tax and spend liberals who are flushing our future down the toilet. GET CA OUT OF DEBT! BOUNCE THE DEMOCRATS OUT OF OFFICE!

Interesting you bring this up.
A couple of days ago, I was thinking, "OK, if I were Gray Davis, who would I fear the most?"
But, we already have that answer...
When Davis feared Riordan, what did he do? He attacked him.
We now see Davis attacking Darrell Issa. Deja vu, I guess. But it makes me think we might be missing something about Issa...He might be our best shot after all...

Ya, there are a lot of Independents, but they don't vote at a very high propensity. They stay home for REGULAR elections. For a special election like this, turnout is TEENIE, TINY, ITTY, BITTY.
Advantage conservatives.
If we can narrow to just one of Simon (yawn), Issa, or McClintock, united we might be able to overcome even Conan the Womanizer!
