Perhaps they could begin by renaming the streets presently named after Nazi Generals.

Isn't that a lot like trying to make a hammer sexy?

Having flown on a Lufthansa transoceanic flight with a bunch of Krauts, I am not eager to spend time with these pushy boors.
When they can make this (a poor trsnaltion of the first paragraph above) sound sexy, they may have a chance:

We've got to start emphasising current aspects of German life which are ignored - the hedonism for example of the Love Parade, the fact that we have short working days, that we take the longest holidays in EuropeYeah, those are great selling points </sarcasm>

"Italians for example have to contend with all sorts of stereotypes about being unreliable, lazy even, completely the opposite impression which people hold of Germany," he said.Subtle little slam there, huh? LOL.

For me the image problem is not the Nazis... It's vivid memories of the hairy, muscluar East German women's swimming team.

OK, so I'm a little nuts, but I like the sound of German. And I just got back from Germany--it's fresh in my mind. Of course, I was on an American Army Post and the Germans I spent time with were old friends whom I really love, so I guess I'm biased!!

What a moron.
Most of the world knows the really good operative stereotypes of Italians
are:
1. great cooks
2. make great food
3. pour you tasty wine
4. hot, hot babes (hey, we're talking the country of Sophia Loren, Monica Bellalucci [sp?]
and about a million other babes)
5. cars with personality, if not great practicality
Many moons ago, my brother "ran off" with "an older woman", his German instuctor.
After a two-month sojourn looking for a job in Germany and also touring Austria and
Italy down to Naples, his conclusion was:
1. In their cities, Germans are arrogant and irritating
(in the countryside, they could be pretty nice
2. Italians might cheat you on making change...but overall, they were great fun
and much, much, much better company.

Topless guides at Auschwitz? Actually, Auschwitz is in Poland. Might have something to do with the Polish inability to recognize German sexiness.

She looks OK, but that other thing seems to be a blond chimpanzee.
By the way, what is that in the background?

It's vivid memories of the hairy, muscluar East German women's swimming team.
A True Classic: the cover illustration of National Lampoon Magazine with
a female East German in track-and-field uniform.
With an obious crotch bulge.
I'll never forget that my otherwise highly moral mother even laughed outloud
when I simply directed her attention to the mag.

Ok, I will join this arguement.
"Wo wir Deutschen sind, functionierts."
While their politics piss me off, one has to admit that the American traditions of mechanics, engineers, and bailing wire, are completely germanic.
My own clann is descended from the Messerschmidts - you know, the Fokkers that built the airplanes. I am a rocket scientist, von beruf.
Nie vergessen that the saturn-IV that put Americans on the moon was developed by Warner Von Braun from the V-2.
