Actually, everyone wins.
The guy with the t-shirts gets money and media time.
Fox becomes more a center of controversy which will draw even more viewers who will promptly decide that, despite any drawbacks, they still like Fox News better than the weirdos who criticize them.
The 37-cent legal threat letter will turn out to be some very cheap publicity for Fox. After all, Fox doesn't care if you love them or hate them, as long as you keep watching them.

"WritersWeekly Warnings Report Date Filed: 12/11/02
Company: Media Life Magazine / medialifemagazine.com
Summary:
I was assigned to write a weekly column for this entertainment and media online magazine. While the column was short - only 500-600 words, it involved doing a lot of research and making calls to media executives in New York and LA. The editor kept changing the tone and direction of the column. While I had no problem making these changes to accommodate his requirements, I never got compensated for my efforts. I had to rewrite this piece four times. The pay was a mere $125. The editor never once returned my calls and emails.

Mostly agree on O'Reilly, who's really more of a populist. Agree on Hannity. Don't agree at all on Shep Smith.
Now, you've left out the two best reasons to watch FNC - Brit Hume and Neal Cavuto. Hume is a riot, if you like "dry".

FOX should have pretended not to notice and they should have done nothing.

"Publicity for him is also publicity for Fox News. Fox will never get many liberals in it's audience."I was just in D.C. on business. I'm putting together a proposal on some work at NDW (Navy Dept.Washington aka the Navy Yard). Anyhow, I stayed at the Capitol Hill Suites and right around the corner was a strip of bars where all the interns and Capitol Hillers watered down afterwork. Judging from the conversations I could eavesdrop on, the majority of them were liberally slanted. So that's why I was surprised to see that, of the 6 TVs in the place, 2 were on ESPN and the other 4 were all on FOX News. Everyone seemed to congregate around the 4 FOX TVs. It was odd, but I realized then that politics in Washington really IS a sport.

Would any of you happen to know of a site online somewhere that explains in kindergarten-simple detail the simple reality that Fox had no legal alternative but to challenge this shirt, and to challenge ALL unauthorized uses of its trademark? These brain-dead "Fox should have just ignored it" responses are starting to get quite annoying.

The way that liberals and left-wingers are treated when they get on those talk shows -- immediately shouted down, without an opportunity to even get a word in -- is just absurd.Welcome to how conservatives and right-wingers were treated from the 1940's to the 1990's.

Fox will never get many liberals in it's audience. But they are quietly making inroads. My husband, a liberal, complained the other day while we were watching MSNBC that they referred to "suicide bombers" instead of "homicide bombers" which they really are. I just reminded him that we were not watching Fox. Eventually, he'll get the picture. If he can, so can others.

open the door for anyone to use their trademarks without permission I agree that's the issue here. From what I understand, in order to protect your trademark in court, you have to show evidence that you've defended it against all other use.

Neither, however, ought to be legally actionable.

They have NO CHOICE. All trademark violations brought to the attention of the company that owns the trademark must be contested, or the company will LOSE THE TRADEMARK.Good point.
To: prairiebreeze
That was the part that got my attention. How can 'we' see things so differently from 'them'. Liberals are some of the rudest loudest people on the panel talk shows. It is the conservatives who are more likely to be shouted down. Maybe I am just remembering Politically Incorrect, with its 4 liberals shouting down the one lone conservative ,week after week, until I stopped tuning in.
