As for a wall along the border, I've never advocated it and never will. It's a waste of time and money.

Same here.

Well you just bitterly disappointed the rabid Trancredo caucus on FR with your above italicized passage.

I know. We don't need walls and we don't need the military. What we need it to arrest and punish those that hire illegals and stop welfare to illegals. Those to things will bring illegal immigration to a near stand still.

I don't think that the ted kennedy like demagouging done by some on FR, helps finding a solution.

Agreed, and that's why I don't post as often as I use too.

"sounds like something from the talikng points a text book union organizer would say, IMO, especially your last sentence."

I don't know where that came from, but the last union attempt made with which I'm familiar was in Hobbs, New Mexico.
They pulled out when two of the organizers were found dead hanging from a barbed wire fence.
The oil field, outside California, hates unions!

what good is electing republicans if all we get is rat droppings.

All we can do is elect the most conservative possible and let the chips fall where they may. If the conservative revolution, which now has congress and the presidency, continues apace, we will be presented with more conservative pols to vote for as time goes on.

I know it sucks to have to always take the long view, but this liberal ocean liner had a lot of momentum. It's going to take a while longer to stop it, and even longer to turn it around. When it IS turned around, we can clean up a lot of this stuff in relatively short order.

p.s. That's my positive spin. When I'm feeling negative I'm sometimes sure we're too far gone and we're swimming against the tide. But that attitude isn't really helpful in producing the kind of change we want.

One of the things that has to be understood about Operation Gate Keeper is that it was a good strategy corrupted by the Clinton adminstration. Apprehension numbers were being falsified, Agents were being told by their superiors to cover up the tracks of illegals on the border. Agents were being reprimanded and harassed by management for apprehending large groups of aliens. Agents were being reprimanded and harassed for reporting aliens that get away. Agents were severely restricted from chasing groups and load vehicles. The National Border Patrol Council went before Congress to try and address the issue of corruption concerning Operation Gate Keeper. Of course, Congress just swept it all under the rug. Opertion Gate Keeper really started to unravel when pissed off agents started leaving for other agencies.

Unfortunately, I'm not privy to what is being discussed in relation to the national strategy on immigration. From what I'm seeing on the line, It seems that the strategy is to make controlling the border the first priority. This is a "no brainer", I know, but for the government to realize it? It's like watching a loved one come out of a coma. When it's been determined that the border is under control then we will start seeing more manpower and assets being diverted to the interior.

When are we going to get the border under control? When are we going to start deporting all these illegals in the interior? I don't know the answer to either question, but I do know that because everything we do is still tied to political correctness it's going to be a long time. It took El Centro Sector five years to accomplish a task that should have been done in six months to a year. It's probably going to be at least another five years before the border is declared "controlled".

Just came to this thread to describe a report being aired right now on Brit Hume's program (so just clicking last reply here).

Sky Harbor in Phoenix had become the main airport out of AZ once illegals make it across the border, so Fox is reporting that Homeland Security/INS has targetted that.

Predictably they show a clip of a DeeDee Meyers lookalike from La Raza who decried "racial profiling", but the government will proceed to crackdown on this aspect of the problem.

Of course it took me so long to type the report has finished airing, but anyone interested can watch the replay later.

You know, jmc, for someone who states "unequivocally" that he is not a Libertarian, you sure do go around stalking threads, looking to "refute" anyone who says a critical word about pro- drug Libertarians.

Take a look at the link in reply #164. Looks like the city of Juarez, across the Rio Grande from El Paso, is becoming the "shangri-la" for the pro-drug Libertarians(cheap illicit drugs availiable everywhere in the city).

Oh, dear! Fox covering the crackdown (that I was informed doesn't exist) on illegals again.

In fact, beefing up along the Canadian border will also be done, *in addition* to the focus on stemming the smuggling of illegals over the Mexican border.

Must be against GWB's wishes according to some. (OK, I couldn't resist a little sarcasm after being told I was the one with my head in the sand.)

That was just today. Look at my posts. I was in a silly mood, so I went around doing the Libertarians...... bit wherever someone mentioned them. Don't mind me. :-)

Let's face it, my friend, Libertarians are out to ruin the world and everything in it. Libertarins are evil.

As a matter of fact, Satan is a Libertarian.

No, I didn't "conveniently forget", sorry. I am on my way out and haven't had time to compose my reply--but suffice to say I concede Sabertooth's point that slowing doesn't = less.

Hey, it happens. I frequently run out of time to reply to every post that I'd like, so I try not to jump to any conclusions about any single non-reply.

Of course, after a while you do get to know the tendencies of different posters, and we are free to draw our own private conclusions about a consistent tendency to duck questions.

I don't know if the two of you have posted to each other before, so forgive me if I'm going over any familiar territory. For the record, Nittany Lion, cyncooper hasn't shown that ducking tendency in my estimation, based on my own previous posts with her. Of the folks here who are more consistently in the Bush camp, I've found her to be one of the more willing posters to consider contrarian points, and be open to reconsider this or that opinion. Her quoted post above is another example of that.

And cyncooper, NittanyLion is a sharp poster himself, who likes a scrap but doesn't nurse grudges.

Geez, this is getting maudlin. I'm outta here.

Thanks Saber, for the

"Nittany meet cyn, Cyn meet Nittany note", and your gracious words. I never did return to this particular thread last night. Off to do battle with you on the other one!

Away we go! (Just kidding---I'm just waking up and will read and contemplate before responding)

Sorry if I came off a bit strong the other day. No offense intended - I was wrong to attribute that to you. Sabertooth, thanks for setting me straight.
