I am involved in a similar law suit. Inadvertenly cut down some trees I thought were on my property, 10 trees to be exact, in a very hilly area. Have two property owners telling me I destroyed their enviornment to the tune of $330,000. Now that is a nightmare that is ongoing. Refuse any reasonable settlement offers just wnat big bucks. By the way both plantiffs are very highly paid Doctors!!!! I hate to say it but if I were in your shoes there might have been a rash of house fires in that area.
It's a tree ... replant it if it gets killed.

(We are crushing our enemies, seeing him driven before us and hearing the lamentations of the liberal)

An arborist valued the lost evergreen and deciduous trees at $50,000 to $70,000. Lies. The value of the tree is in its lumber. $5,000 maybe.

"Lies. The value of the tree is in its lumber. $5,000 maybe."
Tell that to a tree nursery.

I'm heading out to my local Lexus dealer. I think I will offer him the scrap metal value of his 2003 model.

32 hours of public service ??
FOUR eight hour days?
When one of my girlfriends dogs bit someone she was sentenced to 600 hours of communist service. (All her dogs,5! were put down.)
As she was a veteranary tech, she was put to work in the county pound putting dogs to sleep.
I told her to get a lawyer and sue but she just wanted it to end. Stupid.
Note. I'm not with her any more.

Hm--Arkansas? Would be interested to know if you cut down the only trees, or just some trees among many others, etc. Showing willingness to mitigate and offering an apology should impress a jury of twelve people who may resent having their time wasted by a small grievance...if they won't listen to reason, you might find a sympathetic jury.

First I'm sorry it is happening to you. Secondly, welcome to the legal system; powered by greed, sustained by corruption and clothed in ignorance.

It is certainly a "pay to play" system, isn't it?
To: Bluntpoint
It was a scrawny white pine that was quite laughable. We made popcorn balls and hung them on the tree. A neighbor's dogs used call on us each evening, we'd let them inside for a visit...they went after the popcorn balls and pulled down the tree!

I know, I know. It is all in the file.

The "system" has become distorted. In high theory it is supposed to be about justice or a fair adjustment of certain disputes between individuals. The "system" has now become a tool to achieve a goal-often unstated, i.e. force "them" to make safer cars, medicines, coffee cups, fat foods, nicotine or whatever. Now, the "system" seems to be adding the idea that it is a means by which cash strapped office holders raise money. Of course, for us out here in 'Booboisie' the foul souls still prate about justice.

Odds are, the couple is delighted that it only cost them $150,000 to improve their $2,000,000 home into a $3,000,000 home.
To: Beelzebubba
Considering that had they poisoned the trees to death it would have made it very hard to pin this on them, I have my doubts about that.
Arrogant and dumb as rocks are these people. Their actions gave fuel to the tree preservation efforts of many environmentalists.

They paid $990,000 for the property 4 years ago, and the assessor say that it has gone up by 50% since then.
Go here:
http://apps01.metrokc.gov/assessor/erealproperty/parcel.asp And enter parcel number 8081040050 (Isn't it delightful how much information the government keeps on us?)
The property records map shows it bounded on the back side by a long strip of city land too narrow to develop.
