Very well said. Succinct and right-on. God help our republic, because we sure as hell aren't doing anything to save it.

Hey he missed the 3rd amendment. Is not law enforcement now "quartering troops" in housing projects in big HUD developments like in Chicago, New York and LA? Hmmm... The 3rd refers to the peacetime quartering of troops on private property against the wishes of the property owner. Is that what you're talking about? Are HUD developments government-owned, or are they "privately" owned with so many contractual strings attached that the owner cannot legally withhold consent?

The colonel has his points, but only looks at loss of freedom from the view of social conservatism, ignoring Prohibition II and the complete trashing of states' rights by the Ashcroft Justice Department and his predecessors. When one cheers the loss of another's freedom he sets the stage for losing his own.

We should bring all our troops home from Iraq. Why are we trying to free the people of Iraq from a dictator like Saddam, when the people of the United States are dictated to by the SCOTUS?
One decision that wipes out the legislative process in every state can hardly be called DEMOCRACY!!

Jeremiah 3
[6] During the reign of King Josiah (( Jack Tripper // Three's Company )) , the LORD said to me, "Have you seen what faithless Israel (( Janet )) has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree (( Jack's bistro )) and has committed adultery there. [7] I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister Judah (( Chrissy )) saw it.
[8] I gave faithless Israel (( Janet )) her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah (( Chrissy )) had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery. [9] Because (( Janet's )) Israel's immorality mattered so little to her, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stone (( Larry )) and wood. (( Mr. Roper! ))
It's all so clear if you just read between the lines...

The Constitution is still a good document for any nation.Yeah, the best ever written, IMO.
Although I think when we reach the point where it is routinely ignored, as the Democrats and the Left are demanding (living breathing document, they say, when wishing to ignore it), then it will have no effect.
I think our freedom is probably already effectively gone, there are enough obsure laws on the books now to round up the entire population if need be. I often feel like it is only the momentum of tradtion that allows us to continue feeling like a free people. Some day, if we don't revive it, the momentum may fail.
And the same laws that will potentially end our freedom may be cited as precedent by left leaning justices. Or maybe even right leaning ones.

"nor a price to be paid for its violation. Herein lies the crux of the problem. If a death sentence were applied to those that pass laws outside the Constitution were in place, there would be no problem. We need another amendment, as citizens we should demand it.
Ron Paul tried to get a bill passed demanding that congress must test all legislation against the constitution. He could find no sponsers, and my meger signature on his petition evidently didn't do the trick either.
