You don't think Barnes and Nobles and Amazon have replaced the need for government libraries?

No, I don't. When it comes to answering reference questions from the public or serving as a community center and an educational resource, Barnes and Noble is a poor substitute for a public library.

Actually, you're the laughingstock.
You think it's okay to have a Fahrenheit 451 society.

You also make slanderous accusations without proof, nor knowing what I believe in.
You also hurl insults and label people you don't know or understand.
That's the sign of a small weak person, JG.

And yes, I do find you amusing in as much as you feel you must label everyone.
You still can't decide if I'm a marxist, socialist, fascist, statist, or a militarist.
You've called me all of the above, and yet also claimed to be a christian.
A real christian wouldn't do that.
And a real christian would supervise his children and not give the appearence of evil.
And if that's a nanny state, then you are not a christian.

"You believe it takes a village to raise a child"
"You believe in the nanny-state"
"You sound a lot like a 1995 Al Gore claiming Republicans want to kill children and the elderly."

Where have I said any of the above?
All I said was a good filter on the 'puter, like net nanny, and the problem is averted.
If a techy is there, he can do some wizardry and all porn is blocked without a filter.
It's such a simple fix.
And where have I said the Republicans are going to kill the children and teh elderly?
Quote me on it, JG.
Point to where I said that.

What percentage of your libraries resources are allocated towards 'popular' stuff versus more academic 'stuff'?

In context, I was only discussing the advisability of federal and state funding for libraries.

You mentioned three establishment press conservatives that you carry, but all three are representative of just one tiny faction within a large conservative movement-- incidentally, odds are all three would have voted for Ike in '52.

If you believe that the federal government has a role in regulating the town library to protect children from 'harmful content,' that is generally referred to in conservative circles as support for the nanny-state, or Hillary's 'It Takes a Village'.

In your post 11, you indicated that I support childrens access to porn at libraries. This is flawed logic; just because you are 'against' a government program, does not ergo, make you 'for' something. I pointed out that most infamous use of that tactic by Al Gore.

Did I say federal government?
No, it isn't flawed logic.
And quote me where I said:
"You believe it takes a village to raise a child"

QUOTE ME JG.

What I mentioned were actions an individual can take and should take on their own time.
And guess what, they can do so on their own dime and be reimbursed for it as well.
That's free enterprise.

Possibly.
I don't know a Barnes and Noble that has a card catalogue though.
So it'd be a pretty poor substitute, right?
*chuckle*

Absolutely right. Any library that bans access to "porn" is bound to ban access to websites like the NRA's, anti-aborion sites, Freerepublic, and others soon after. And if they do, you can be assured that the Green party's, Ralph Nader's, the DNC's, or Michael Moore's site won't be joined on the banned list.

And I know that - while my local library lends not just Hillary's new book, but last time I checked they had The Communist Manifesto and Das kapital; meanwhile they didn't even have any of Bill O'Reilly's books, let alone anything by Ayn Rand or anyone else on the right. Should library users access to the internet be similarly restrained?

P.S. to use library computers, you need a library card. If parents are so worried about their kids looking at pictures of porn in a *public place* with other people looking on, *DON'T GET THEM LIBRARY CARDS*.

No, that's not a card catalogue, that's inventory list.
Do you even know what a card catalogue is?

And that's why you supervise your kids yourself.
Gee, how hard is that?
"Oh gee, I don't wanna watch my kids. So i'll leave them unsupervised. OMG! They're watching porn vids online!"
How silly is that?
Either install a filter so you can go and be oblivious to the kids and don't complain, or watch your kids yourself.

Not any bookstores near me.
And the stock is usually so cluttered together in an illogical order that you don't know if they're alphabetizing the author or the title.
You try again.

This entire article is about how the Supreme Court ruled in regards to the Consitutionality of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (2000). Did you not read the article?
