The film is strongly Eucharistic. There is a beautiful juxtaposition of images that cuts from the stripping on Calvary to the unwrapping of the bread to be used at the last Supper.

To be fair to Peter, he was confused when he took a sword and tried to defend Jesus from arrest, and was told to stop fighting. He just didn't understand.

He did follow along and tried to be near Him even though he denied Him.

Have you read The Last Temptation of Christ? I found it a great metaphysical work until the very end, when as a teenager I was disappointed in what the last temptation was.

It seemed so banal to me then. Now decades later, I can understand more the temptation of a normal life, with a normal family and love.

I have yet to see the film. I should probably make a point of renting it.

Even the author mentioned that the "celebrity stuff was completely gone from the moment." She was pretty drawn, even felt compelled to leave the room during one part of The Way of the Cross. And like she said, "Great art is a great leveler."

I believe Gibson when he says it will be intense. He is one of the few quality storytellers in Hollywood who will effectively make you laugh, or make you cry.

I don't usually cry at movies, but in Braveheart, I did. This time, I'm bringing the Kleenex.....just in case.

Just about the only movies I'll consent to watch are Mel Gibson movies. Anyone know of a website that lists "clean" movies?

Which do you prefer: Lethal Weapon 1, 2 or 3? Personally, I found the best displays of sex and violence in the second. I am looking forward to the Passion. Gibson is a master of portraying violence.

Her book is very difficult (emotionally) to read. I cried, often.

I didn't see the Lethal Weapon movies. I saw Braveheart, and We Were Soldiers. And the one about the Revolutionary War. I don't see many movies because I hate most of them, used to read the reviews and that was enough. Now I hardly bother with reviews. My life is interesting and exciting enough without Hollywood entertainment.

The largest obstical to people coming to Jesus is our own feuding between different denominations within the body of Christ. It is the sin nature of mankind, we will be broken until God says it is time to be otherwise.

The healthiest thing I have ever done in my spiritual growth is to join a non denominational Bible study.It really helps remove Prejudges.

As you know, I'm not a religious practitioner, but I'm anxious to see the film from an historical vantage point.
I read that Gibson put a lot into the research and that it was shot in Aramaic and Latin for effect. I feel sure that this will probably be the closest to what is known about the death of Jesus and will be presented without bias or Hollywood bravado.

I've seen very few comments, if any, on this thread disdaining Mary. However, there are several comments which indicate an unwillingness to believe she is perfect or sinless. This is not the same as disdain.

Amen...there is hardly anything in the Bible about Jesus's life for 30 years.....are we to assume he didn't exist just because it's not written down??

I just don't get the animosity to Jesus's Mother. He assumed her body and soul into heaven after her death....that shuld tell YOU something.

There were a number of good films about his life and times. Some were theatrical, a few were made for tv. One made for tv that made an impression on me, and at a difficult time of my life; was "Jesus of Nazareth" by Franco Zeffirelli in 1977. It was a great, big, epic film about his life from cradle to grave, then his ascention; although that was not shown.

It showed the scared and grieving apostles in a bare room, then they turn around and look in one direction when someone seemed to come into the room. Then it showed Christ sitting on the floor with the men sitting around him, and at his side. One of them begs him to stay with him; and he promises them he'll be "with them until the end of time.".
