It goes for anyone, no matter young, middle or old age, who have a RIGHT TO BE FREE FROM this crap

Where is the enumerated exactly? I must have missed it.
Hint: You don't have a right not to be offended.

No, YOU get a DVD player and watch all the horse sex and homo porn and whatever you want. but don't drag the rest of this country and culture into your dirt by demanding the media lower itself (and the rest of us) to YOUR standards on public airwaves

Fox News is nothing more that tabloid trash, just because you might agree with what they are saying doesn't make it any less trashy.

Murdoch has no political philosophy, he will put anything on television that he thinks will make money, he is the cultural equivalent of Osama Bin Laden

Turning your tv off may work for you,but what about the kids who watch programs like this without their parents knowledge? Maybe the kids are watching shows like this in their rooms.

FLASH: I am the parent. We have two TV's in this house. One for public viewing, in the living room. The other is in Mom and Dad's bedroom.

I can't speak to what other parents allow their children to watch. I won't speak to how other parents raise their children.

I am the ultimate V-Chip in this house.

Adolf Hitler would have just loved

Forum foul. Ancient received wisdom posits that one who mentions Hitler has de facto lost the argument.

I guess I admire folks who get their knickers in a knot over the crap on the boob tube. But, I wonder, and even worry about television's power, even over those who visit this place.

For survival, man needs food, clothing and shelter, For too many, television seems to replace one of those three.

You have the right to look at and do what you want so long as you don't squash the rights of others

Ok, I want to watch horse porn. Stop trying to use government to squash my 'right' to do so.

Guess you don't really see what you're saying.

We have a right to be FREE FROM garbage.
No you do not. You have the right to turn off your TV, change the channel, not BUY a TV, or buy a TV that has parental controls built in (all digital cable and satellite systems do).

What you DON'T have a 'right' to do is to pass laws telling the rest of us what we can and can't watch.

I never even heard of this show.

That said, let the market decide. Not a bunch of unelected bureaucratic JBT's.

I don't agree. Television viewing has not diminished. It has increased but now there are a hundred channels. The major network's prime time audience is falling because people are going to HBO and Discovery and Fox and a zillion other channels. But guess what? I just scanned the listings and do you know what is currently playing on the History Channel?

HISTORY The XY Factor : Sex in the 20th Century: The Politics of Pleasure (Doc) Sexual experimentation; herpes; AIDS; Viagra; Monica Lewinsky. TV14 CC

I going to watch it! :)

No I don't even like the ACLU. I do like the Constitution, and would fight for every fredom that I enjoy, including the freedom to be free of YOUR tastes. If you are asking the government to police the airwaves to enforce your definition of garbage, what is the difference between you and liberals that would wish to inhibit the "garbage" of talk-radio hosts from the right?
Your's is a regulatory disease. I just use the remote control.

"And sadly there will be plenty of dumb people in this country who will buy into it, and do their part to prove that the intelligence of the American people should never be overestimated."

I agree. Some people just can't believe that there's plans for social engineering going on in these board rooms in addition to the business side of this.

Also, whenever someone says that they watch because the writing was good eventhough they know it's not good for them, I tell them the following:
It is all about the commercials. It is never about giving people excellent shows to watch. It is all about giving people something entertaining and maybe even shocking to watch so they'll stay tuned in between watching what they are selling.

The owners of these stations would put on shows to fill the time between commercials. The more a show appeals to the masses, the longer they'll stay tuned and the more commercials they'll see.

Bwhaahahahahah. BTW - Good thing the PTC wasn't watching TNN the other night. Scarface was on, almost unedited(f-bombs and that type of language only).

Good arguments, but I ask you, how is what THEY are doing not social engineering ? They are shaping and sculpting our culture--and the image we are known by around the world. How can this not be social engineering?? We need new engineers!

we should completely deregulate and de-censor television and allow the most perverted junk imaginable during all hours of the day. Then people might actually stop allowing their kids to watch the d___d thing, and then things might actually start to improve in this country

Good point.

I've always said that TV is the one thing I'd uninvent if given the 'power' to do so.

It's a mind control device. And not for the reasons the sexual puritans think, either.

TV has hardcore porn after 10. You don't want that to happen in your country

I believe the best way to stop that is through the market.

I see, so it's okay to have abortions, it's just that if YOU don't want to have one, then don't have one.

Unrelated. Abortion kills someone. TV doesn't.

It is not social engineering because it is reactive. Programmers run focus groups and big research projects all to find out what you want. Free TV isn't pushing the envelope. That is going on on the premium channels. It is going on in the theaters. But what succeeds in those venues eventually makes its way to the commercial channels because they are fighting for the same audience.

There is no group to which I'm willing to entrust a social engineering project. We do it as a people all by ourselves. We do it everytime a movie is a hit or bombs. We do it every time we turn the channel on our TV --- and that's the only way I want it. Anything else is censorship (although it can carry much fancier labels).

I like the constitution too. Especially the 9th Amendment that says Constitutional rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage the rights of others

YOU are regulating smut IN-- it didnt used to be there, buddy! And really everyone did just FINE! You can still go look at the dirty little pamphlets in your Daddy's bottom drawer, you can still go to x-rated theaters--GO AHEAD! Just dont bring it into the homes of those who dont want it--who dont even want the 5 SECONDS of it they would be forced to see before they got hold of the remote.

gotta leave- can't argue any more tonight
