Who is that [smiling]handsome devil sitting behind Billy Bulger? Why it's Boston's WRKO news/radio/talk show host, Howie Carr.

http://www.howiecarr.org

1st Hour The nation got a chance to see $358,000-a-year UMass Pres.Billy Bulger in action yesterday at the Congressional Government Reform hearing in Washington.

MORE:Testimony Didn't Change Opinions

Howie often plugs FreeRepublic on his show, so figured I would give his 'mug' a plug as well.

Bulger's testimony was his claim that he was reluctant to help capture his brother, fugitive gangster James J. ``Whitey'' Bulger, because he was afraid Whitey Bulger would be killed by an FBI agent.

That's the best defense that Bulger's top-notch Boston attorney could come up with? Sheesh. Time for someone to go back to law school.

Background: For more than 20 years, Boston's most notorious gangster worked hand-in-hand with a tight-knit group of FBI agents, ratting out his Mob rivals in exchange for protection from arrest and prosecution. When the partnership unraveled, James "Whitey" Bulger disappeared, leaving his former associates and FBI handlers to face the music. For the past seven years, he has been on the run.

Through it all, Boston Globe reporters have led the way in uncovering the sordid details of Bulger's life of crime and his shadowy relationship with the FBI. Boston.com has assembled the best of the Globe's coverage, including more than 200 reports from the archives, to present this portrait of New England's best-known fugitive. http://www.boston.com/news/packages/whitey/Pictures

In Massachusetts, the corrupt midget (CM) obtained power
because of his serial murdering brother who threatened the CM's political rivals.

To this day, these serial murderers run Massachusetts.

I watched the hearing on CSpan last night. It was awe-inspiring to watch Bulger dance, evade, bamboozle, obsfucate, filibuster, but never answer a question directly without a qualification.

He's been on the run for 7 years? Well, there is a bounty hunter hanging out in a Mexican jail for having "kidnapped" the Max Factor heir rapist the other day. Maybe someone needs to spring him so he can get cracking on this case.

It was truly unbelievable. I've been following the case--the Boston Globe's coverage has been very good (see post #4)--but why this guy still has his $358,000 a year job is beyond me.

Oh, and he even tried to portray himself and his family as victims because the FBI had the audacity to question his daughter. The nerve!

On Monday, Bulger got a vote of confidence from U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass, who was in Boston to announce a $3 million science grant for UMass-Boston.

Asked if he thought the calls for Bulger's resignation were premature, Kennedy said "absolutely."

Under the contract, once Bulger retires, he is eligible to become a tenured UMass-Boston political science professor with his current salary declining 20 percent each year until he reaches the average base pay for a UMass-Boston senior professor - about $87,000. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/2259535/detail.html

OMG. Just OMG.

If I did what William Bulger did (not Whitey), I'd be in a jail cell.

It is such a scandal that this crook is a university president. A corrupt political career capped off by the presidency of a state funded university. Just pathetic.

To answer like Billy Bulger, "I don't remember if I was there when the fisting issue was decided. I could've been, but I just have no recall of the issue."

After watching a couple hours of Bulger, I'm SURE he'll write a book--or co-author one with a former president :-))
