One of the telling ones, IMO, is that America really is getting to a point where gun ownership, and the pleasure of it, is often looked on today as something a little odd, even unhealthy. I had a dinner party a few weeks ago and the subject of firearms came up. One of our guests was aghast when she found out that I actually owned a few of them. ....just stared at her plate the rest of the night.
Unfortuantely, I'd imagine her sentiments aren't exactly rare.

"subjecting" Yeah, that's the key word, IMO.

Libs have two reactions, they either crawl into a catatonic shell like Bill where they can't hear or see anything or lash out with a stream of hateful profanity. Ain't that the truth. Discussing the matter reasonably seems beyond their ability.

She gives us excellent strawberries from her garden, so I didn't want to antagonize her too badly. ....But I definitely (and politely) said my piece.

I don't know if hubby could restrain himself even for strawberries (which he loves). You have to understand, he'll argue with Jehovah's Witnesses, even.
He had a couple of them cornered on the front porch one day and they were looking desperate (he really is a most effective debater). I leaned out an upstairs window and said in my sweetest voice, "Come in, darling, and let the nice people alone." They scuttled off down the driveway, and we haven't seen 'em since.
He says the trick is to get them off their memorized track and then keep them off balance. :-D

You have to understand, he'll argue with Jehovah's Witnesses, even. Wow, that's a man who loves debate. I made the mistake once of telling a few Witnesses I was Jewish, hoping that would effectively end their desire to chat. Boy, was I mistaken! It encouraged them, if anything. They were nice people, so I thanked them for their concern and sent them on their way.

The exclusive defenders of the First Amendment, sacrifice the Second Amendment at their own peril. Exactly right, but good luck convincing the ACLU.

A friend of mine had a novel way of dealing with JWs. When they knocked on her door, she invited them in and
began evangelizing for the Episcopal Church (something that Whiskeypalians just never, ever do.) She was raised a Baptist, so she knew how.
Again, the rule appears to be to keep them totally off balance.

Yeah, strawberries are great.
Most of the time, the evangelizers are not willing to walk through my barking, growling dogs, which I have arranged to be surrounding my house, to get to the front door. At least they have not taken up cold calling on the phone.

That is why I have started to believe that it is important for as many of us that are able to go out and purchase and own guns. Only after a generation or two of suburban kids growing up in an atmosphere of guns will they once again come to view guns as normal and useful.

I've brought my kids up knowing how to shoot, which they enjoy and are good at, yet still, I think they regard our family as outside the norm for being gun owners, which I guess we are, in this day and age.
After all, Janet Reno justified the aggressive and violent storming of a private home with a SWAT team (armed with full auto) by saying there may have been a firearm inside.
