Guilty of spying for an ALLY. We were on the same side as the USSR.

While we were on the same side as the USSR, they were not an ally. They would have been more than content to let the West be defeated by the Germans, if Hitler hadn't gone stupid and attacked them, before at least finishing off England. At best we were cooperating with each other, at a very high level, quite unlike the integrated effort we had with the Brits and the various "Free" governments in exile, whom we were integrated with militarily.

That said, my Uncle got to take a couple of dips in the Norht Atlantic, in attempting to provide supplies to the USSR, and thus to help them kill more Germans and tie down more German units. By the time of the Rosenbergs' treachery, it was quite clear that we and the Soviets would be post war adversaries.

The Soviets were stunned when the Rosenberg ring told them we were building an implosion plutonium bomb. They had not considered that method at all (plutonium is much easier to make than uranium is to refine). Julius also gave the Soviets the plans to our first jet fighter--plans which were used to build the MIG-15 which was a big surprise to our pilots in Korea. In addition, he handed over a working proximity fuse. The Soviets used that design to shoot down Gary Powers and his U-2. The first Soviet bomb was an exact copy of the bomb we dropped on Nagasaki.

I only wish Greenglass and Fuchs had been turned into a couple of 1/4 watt resistors plugged into 2,300VAC like the Rosenbergs.

Ted Hall too. I also think maybe the Brits wish they could have gotten their hands on Kim Philby too.

This is David Greenglass's extraordinary story, including the shocking revelation that he lied on the stand and sent his own sister to the electric chair!

I'm sure his sister and Julius would concur that it was indeed a shocking experience.

Guilty of spying for an ALLY.

Does an alley intern your military personel who happen to stray onto it's terroritory, perhaps forced to do so, due to battle damage either from a third party (the Japanese during WW-II) or by the forces of the country in question. (Many cold war shootdowns, some prior to the Korean War). Does it take your military personel captured by a third party back to it's country for long term interogation, and never return them? I don't think so. Those are the actions of an enemy. You don't have to be at war to have enemies, and the USSR was the enemy of the United States. Thus giving them aide and conform was treason, by the constitutional definition.

Brush up on yer logic.

Lying or plagiarism is the ultimate (final) sin of the writer. The lie calls into question all writing before and since. That Brock blames his "lies" on his employer is completely despicable.

If he's a liar he should shut up, not publish a nasty screed (Blinded by the Right) blaming his indescretions on others.

Poofter boy Brock said he lied--why should we believe anything he sez (same with Julius and Ethel)

Thanks, Mark17, forgot those, I guess your mind does start to go at 56 (regardless if you want to admit it or not ;-)!! I appreciate you bringing them to my (and the other readers) attention again.

The briefings never quite leave your thoughts LOL...

Especially the part where they threaten you with GANJI if you ever reveal any of that stuff, and mention that unless you get the official declassification notice, it's still classified not matter how much of it become "publicly known".

I'm 56, not over 65 like some earlier posters have stated was the cutoff age for knowing about this BS, and still know the names, and darn well know traitors when I hear about them.

I came along a few years after you and I remember it as well. My parents were a now extinct species: anti-communist Democrats. Remember telling my parents when I was in the 4th or 5th grade that they saw communists under every bed. I got that line from my teachers who were telling us the Soviets were not a threat and both systems were moving toward the center where they would be the same.

As Louis Farrahkan would say, "it is time for atonement". The left has a lot to atone for. Trying to turn kids against their parents for one.

You're welcome. Ted Hall was involved in the nuclear weapons program. To the best of my knowledge, Kim Philby was not an atom bomb spy, just your average garden variety spy, and I think he eventually died in Russia.

From their point of view, they were willing to die rather than reveal their contacts. This is expected of all spymasters. They are not supposed to betray their troops. They were buying time for the ring to escape.

We often tend to forget that enemies may be patriotic, brave, clever, etc. (Of course we still have to kill them.) It's too bad that people of otherwise good character may be on the wrong side. (See the movie, "El Dorade" for an example.)

I thought that "Liberal" was Ethel's code name. Perhaps I don't remember correctly. This is from one of the Venona books.

She sounds like a loyal democrat to me.

Well.. Technically the soviet union was our "ally" but this is one of those imponderables of history - we really had absolutely nothing in common with them, other than a general agreement to crush the Nazis. In any case, spying/espionage, even for an ally, is a Bad Thing. Ask Jonathon Pollard.

The Federal Behemoth took on new powers, outside of the Constitution. A Death Penalty inside the nation, outside of War, outside of the border precincts where fighting or insurrection occur. The power to declare and hang "Enemies of the State" where "enemy" is whoever the State, the Reigning State merely says so, not by legal declaration of due process but by fiat -- not a Republic of Laws.

All to fry a Jew. Two Jews.

There is one thing about Jews, any tyrant State, and tyrant State proponent knows. Jews are Liberated, Free. By G-d's Command, the First of the Ten Commandments -- Jews are, inerasably, *inalienably* FREE!

In that the deepest connection of their soul, each Jew's soul to the divine light -- Liberty rings out through any land that holds them dearly as the closest of brothers.

Any Jew is an Enemy of the State -- the Tyrant State.

For where Jews can stand unchecked by a Tyrant's hand -- Liberty florishes, tyranny whithers.
