this really was the subtext to the l.a. riots. blacks were very angry that mexican immigrants were displacing them from their communities. (many of these communities were relatively recent, having been established only after the watts riots of the 1965.)

also, asians were benefitting from owning stores in black communities. blacks were pulling up to autos occupied by asians at stop signs and firing. or, robbing their businesses. this continued until the koreans armed themselves, and sometimes killed black robbers.

after the los angeles riots, over 50,000 middle class blacks moved to get away from violence by lower class blacks. one area they moved to enmasse was the moreno valley, which then was new and offered relatively cheap housing prices.

some lower class blacks moved in to lancaster and palmdale.

nearer the old communities, many blacks immediately after the riots moved south into long beach.

many other blacks blended into mixed communities.

of course, middle class and upper class blacks can still be found in the baldwin hills area immediately south of downtown los angeles.

in sum, immigration forced many blacks to move, dispersing the black center of power in south-central. the result is the loss of black power. this has caused a lot of resentment.

Well, according to the Census, there are AT LEAST 10 million illegals in the US, and probably more, so something between 1/4 and 1/3rd of the Hispanics in the US aren't citizens.

I wouldn't get too excited. The majority of hispanics voted for Gore in 2000, 62% to Bush's 35%. Don't believe me, look at the exit polls:

I think they are all in Texas..my neighborhood school, suburb of Dallas is 88% hispanic and increasing. We are being forced out of our neighborhood. Even the signs at Target are in Spanish/English.

It is very hard to understand if you haven't witnessed it firsthand. Depressing.

Actually, you're wrong. White, non-Hispanics will continue to be the largest racial group in the US, through at least the year 2100 and beyond, based on current projections. Not that it really matters - I suspect my great-grandchildren will come to regard this "debate" over whether Hispanic folks can assimilate into mainstream society to be about as silly as the same debate over Irishmen and Italians looks from the perspective of a hundred years after the fact.

YOU may want a third-world, primitive-voodoo-style Catholic Hispanic culture to dominate America. But I, as a white female, do NOT want to see this happen. Of course I will always be accused of being the racist for not wanting to have their culture illegally foisted on me. I must be non-racist, non-judgmental, shut my mouth and pay the taxes to support them at the expense of the betterment of my own family. The Hispanics are NEVER the racists in all this, right? And don't throw back any "anti-Catholic" crap at me, because I am FED UP with the Roman Catholic church's stance on this whole issue. They encourage illegals to come here and breed to add to their church rosters. If the Protestant churches were doing this, I'd be complaining about them, too, I can assure you!

And by the way, the Hispanic illegals who are coming to my rural Missouri town are hardly innocent Boy Scouts ready to do a noble, hard-day's work. They are more interested in getting dimwit local girls pregnant to get an "anchor" into the US and get some better welfare benefits in the process. When I am visiting home, I will see them in the grocery store with their food stamps. (The irony is, I know so many low-income people who are lifelong residents of my town who are too damn proud to ever have used food stamps. They have their own garden patches, as does my family.)

But I don't see Congress or Bush having the guts to deal with this issue. Tancredo is the only one there with any integrity and look at how they try to crucify him.
