Also if your power supply is running hot, has a burnt smell, is packed with dust and can't be cleaned or the fan shows any sign of binding or slowing down after cleaning please DO NOT try to coax more life out of it. It can easily catch fire and make things much worse. If you must run in this condition don't leave the machine unattended.
If it is only a noisy fan and you can judge that is the only problem then maybe try to save it with a little silicone spray.
