What really happened? It seems that the various media organs have a vested interest in how the Jessica Lynch story is perceived. One tack was that Jessica's bravery is proof that the debate about women in combat is over. [I discussed this in this piece:]
http://www.aim.org/publications/briefings/2003/may01.html
Now the media has lost interest in that angle and want to say that it was faked. Jessica supposedly has amnesia. His father came out on TV and denied this. I have a few questions for you all:
Does anyone have an idea of what happened? What do we make of this?

Lynch's "total amnesia" of the event makes me wary of the official story too.
To: walford
Yeah, the Special Ops always uses blanks.

Don't they realize that the doctors are just trying to clear themselves from any guilt in this situation? They have a stake in their version of the story.

When the controversy started the BBC suggested the Pentagon could clear it up by releasing all the film footage. Pentagon didn't seem to like the idea, sounds kinda fishy to me.

The Iraqis said US Special Forces shot the locks off every single door in the hospital... but used blanks.

Are these some of the same people who were screeching that the Baghdad Museum had been looted, and that it was the fault of the military?
We all know how that turned out.
To: snooker
Gee, I never considered that possibility...
To: walford
How do we know that she doesn't have amnesia? She went through a traumatic experience. Who knows, she could have been raped and doesn't want it known to the general public. She may be mentally suppressing what happened. Let's not be too quick to don the tin-foil hats just because the media wants to tear down any and every aspect of the liberation.
To: joesnuffy
Col Hunt (FNC) has debunked this several times...he personaly has talked to several Special Ops who participated in this raid...it was not a hoax....I believe Col. Hunt.

Bollocks. MOUT is dangerous. Point blank and end of story. PFC was held in a building. Charging into a hostile building- at night and up stairs is extremely dangerous. You don't get any second chances. All this Rambo BS people see from Hollywood where Bruce Willis simply dives and shoots half the room in mid air is pure fantasy. You try that in a real situation and you're dead- no replays.
I think the military handled this the way that was most reasonable. Regardless of how it turned out in the end, they had to assume the worst and go in that way. That's good operations in my book and I would be upset if they had gone about it any other way. Like the ole saying goes- better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The liberal media are trying their best to roast our boys now over this but at the end of the day- they're alive and they accomplished their mission. That's all that counts.

What about those other POW's? I seem to remember a group of five including a woman. You never hear about them, but this "blond girl" fits the news profile. So VIACOM (the "Living History" folks) are offering her a package of interviews on CBS news, a Simon and Shuster book deal, and her own MTV special. If she could just rememeber what happened...
It doesn't matter that it might be all fabricated. She's still a "hero", right? She should go on tour with Chief Moose the other phoey baloney american hero...

D-oh, Bart!
To: walford
I don't care what happened so long as we got Private Lynch out of there alive.
One thing's certain: Special ops damned sure didn't use any blanks on that operation. That claim is worthy of Baghdad Bob.
