Don't know how Newt arrived at his numbers, but I'd say she does have a chance of getting elected. I'd like to say the chances are "slim" and "none", but just like the Dems "misunderestimated" Dubya, we cannot let our guard down!

Regarding other posters saying they'd vote for her if so-and-so ran against her, I'd have to say it would be a cold day in he** before I would!

"Under which party do you suppose that would happen?"

Knowing Keyes... his own...

she is playing it all for 2008

She will be the candidate on November 2, 2004.

She absolutely cannot wait until 2008.

Newt predicted winning over 30 house seats in the 1998 election. So much for the modern day political Nostradamus.

Keeping Cheney on the ticket for 2004 is huge mistake. He's great and everyone loves him but the 2004 election is like a buy in a big tournament with 2008 being the championship. If the GOP fails to put someone in the VP slot who is a legitimate 2008 candidate we are sinking our own boat.

why can't she wait? she has a senate seat until 2006, she would win it again easily unless Giuliani runs, and if he does run, she can simply serve in the senate until 2006 and immediately start the 2008 presidential run after leaving the senate.

she cannot afford to lose, so unless there is some major disruption in the US economy, she will not run in 2004, because she would lose.

"Keeping Cheney on the ticket for 2004 is huge mistake."

Huh? He's doing a great job... shouldn't he be rewarded for doing so?

If the Republican Party can't find anyone to run for President against Hillary in 2008 and beat her, they deserve to lose.

It is absolutely baffling how a woman with NO political or management experience of ANY kind can ascend to being elected senator in a state she has NEVER even lived in, and then be predicted to win the presidency based on nothing more that a few years learning the senator role.

It says a lot about the nation, none of it good.

I think Newt underestimates her chances. I'll write an essay today (or in the next few days) to describe why.

No, don't. You'll just give her ideas on how she can improve her chances.

Keeping Cheney on the ticket for 2004 is huge mistake.

I'm suspicious that the Republican establishment is doing this so they can install a pro-choice candidate and bypass the Republican electorate.

Also, there will be a big friendly splash in the media when the popular VP dies in office and black? / female? / pro-choice? successor is chosen.

The Democrats are busy registering people to vote. Really busy. Are the Republicans doing the same?

"I'm suspicious that the Republican establishment is doing this so they can install a pro-choice candidate and bypass the Republican electorate."

Huh? So if Guiliani wins a Republican primary for President in 2008, it will be because he's installed?

You're crazy...

the odds on electing a third member of the same family are not great. But then again, the Republicans have got to get busy spinning the Hillary! 2008 presidential run as Bill Clinton's third term. That will have a lot of mileage, giving an impeached president a third term (and possibly a fourth) through his wife. And, as other freepers have noted, may be the reason why she must divorce him before the run begins. I also believe that will happen, soon.

She's addicted to Bill... as long Bill wants to stay married to Hillary... Hillary will stay married to Bill...

If someone who would vote for Hillary over Alan Keyes says I'm crazy, I'm probably on the right track -- thanks.
