I hope some Freeper makes a list of all the hospitals and all the pet shops and all the cities involved in all these diseases.

This list and map could be part of every disease thread.

We would be able to visually "see" any patterns, overlays, whatever, who knows?

Also what happens when a wrong diagnoses is made?

SARS-Monkeypox-West Nile-St.Louis Enchepalitis-Plauge on and on.

If a mosquito bites an infected animal with any of these, or an infected human with any of these, what will happen?

Will we have an enormous mosquito vector problem?

Will the old summer polio panic be a "picnic" compared to this new spread?

Who will we trust?

Smallpox isn't spread by mosquitoes or there would be cases on record. I think that means monkeypox isn't either.

Yes, but St.Louis and West Nile are.

Is SARS?

When we get into the enchepalitis and meningitis cases, I think there will be some wrong conclusions taken.

Good news. The girl with monkeypox and encephalitis is recovering. She's in Indiana, apparently. IN reports several monkeypox cases .

I wonder if any cases of the disease are among transportation workers, such as FedEx, UPS, Airborne Express, etc.? The Moberleys seemed to be sending and receiving animals from all over the states.

Encephalitis is known from Africa as a complication in severe cases of monkeypox. That doctor is being supercautious and/or trying to calm down the public.

Re my # 6.

Since I sit with my back to the TV while I'm puter freepin, I got my dirt tunnel and brown animal and dog mixed up.

The FOX segment was about the dog trapped in the tunnel, not the "dogs" in the pet store.

I try to correct my mistakes, just like the NYT.

Has anyone seen the owners of Phil's Pet Pockets interviewed on TV?

Monkeypox is also suspected in the Milwaukee suburb of South Milwaukee...

Monkeypox traced to local pet business

Jun 12 2003 12:00AM By Staff Writer

One South Milwaukee resident exhibiting symptoms of the virus

The South Milwaukee Health Department is working in conjunction with the city of Milwaukee and the Waukesha county health departments to contain a suspected local case of monkeypox.

About 20 people in Wisconsin are suspected of having monkeypox, a virus spread by prairie dogs. Only a few cases have been confirmed.

The outbreak was traced to two Milwaukee-areapet stores and a Wausau swap meet. The prairie dogs were distributed through a South Milwaukee business called SK Exotics, South Milwaukee Health Department Director Jackie Ove said.

Monkeypox causes high fevers and painful blisters. The disease had never been seen outside of Africa until the recent outbreak in Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois.

Ove confirmed that one resident associated with SK Exotics developed symptoms after being bitten by a prairie dog from a shipment in early May. The local Health Department became aware of the situation last week.

"The distributor has had symptoms and was hospitalized," Ove said. "The Health Department is involved in the quarantine and isolation of anyone who has developed monkeypox."

People diagnosed with monkeypox must be isolated until the scabs fall off their lesions. Ove said people should avoid all contact with prairie dogs at this time and should wash their hands thoroughly if they do happen to come into contact with a prairie dog.

Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, nonproductive cough, chills, drenching sweat and swollen lymph nodes and might not appear for up to three weeks after contact with an infected prairie dog.

People exhibiting these symptoms should seek medical care and call the Health Department at (414) 764-5060.

She said people who have had direct contact with prairie dogs should call the monkeypox hotline at (414) 286-3603.

"Besides the four confirmed cases in Indiana, the state now lists 22 others as either probable or suspect, based on new definitions from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "

22 probable or others.
