As a youth I ran with a bad bunch....called Locating Regiments of the Royal Artillery. The operators of the AMETS.

I was a technician then and one of the early Hydrogen Generators had blown it's catalyst pack. We took it to Johnson Matthey for an overhaul.

While we were there they were prepping two units for the British Antarctic Survey. They are not large units and you could fit 3 in the back of an 18 wheeler.

This story really appears to be grasping at straws by the Gruniad operative.

Has anyone even considered that maybe the units were clean only because they haven't produced anything YET?

Another possibility is that they have bleach in Iraq. As far as the lack of certain tools like an autoclave and vacuum pumps....mean nothing as they could be portable as well.

No fair. You're playing by the facts. You're supposed to just deduce them, either from the correct ideology or from some premise any right-thinking member of FR would wish to be true.

Why not use the cheaper and less dangerous helium?

Wouldn't hydrogen be cheaper than helium since it is so much easier to make?

Helium is plentiful as it is a byproduct of the refining of natural gas.

I thought a special procedure was necessary to strip natural gas of its helium.

OH COME ON! You can generate hydrogen with aluminum foil and lye in a bottle. What is with this horse crap!?!?
