Joseph Stalin, the Soviet dictator, was paranoid. Perhaps his deepest fears centred around his great rival for the leadership of the Bolshevik movement, Leon Trotsky Oh good grief. This writer is either trying to distort history or is ignorant. Stalin wasn't even a factor in 1917. Or 1918. Or 1921. He was a nothing. The Bolsheviks had killed millions before Stalin became a force. The internal battle was between the Trotsky/Zinoviev foreign elites and the Kaganovich/Yagoda hard nosed ghetto dwellers--Stalin was just a a front. Lazar was Stalin's brother-in-law. His daughter married into the Kaganovich clan as well.

Distorting history to suit his purpose - AND ignorant.
The left cannot understand GWB - they constantly try to fit him into a mold. Ashcroft is a Fascist...Neocons rule the world...Hitler references everywhere...and now Stalin! LOL. This isn't even appropriate for the bottom of the bird cage.

I watched a televised UCLA "debate" about the war in Iraq. Hitchens was supposedly taking the side of Bush, but it was like watching the left debate the far-left. Gore could have been a better job representing the right-wing than Hitchens did.

The article is not an attack on Bush-if it is an attack (by being an expose) it is an attack on neo-cons and Bush is not a neo-con. He does take advice from this group though--but he takes advice from paleo-cons too.

The essay is a heaving, steaming pile of ripe manure written by kid in NYC who thinks referring to "Shachtman" makes him an intellectual.

Taken one by one, Jeet's articles contain some useful information, but put them all together and they get sillier and sillier, and amount to a child's view of the world. So Wolfowitz has heard of Schachtman. That hardly explains administration policies. Politicians and policies can't simply be reduced to some assumed intellectual influences, whether real or (as in this case) merely presumed. They have to be examined on the own terms, and in light of the purposes they are supposed to fulfill.

1. Silly title. Neocons are the only consistant anti-Communists these days.
2. Expansionism to forward the revolution preceded the Declaration of Independence. We invaded Canada in 1775.

Of course Trotsky is most famous as the Mr. Body in the Clue case, "Raoul in the library with the ice pick."
