Kind of a silly statement considering the Cubs are in first place Its the CUBS.......they will find a way to lose..

Eight games is in line with others who have been caught corking bats in the past. Sammy needs to tell his "advisors" to put a cork in it and sit out his week.

ummm, is it just the non-chicago cubs fan that are anti sosa????
Personally, I agree, if he's wrong, he's wrong...but funny how most people criticizing Sosa would defend one of their hometown heros, eh????

He should just put a cork in it.
Tee-hee-hee.

As a Chicagoan I should probably side with Sosa, except he's a liar and a cheat. I am an American and I didn't support a liar and a cheat in the White House for 8 years, why start now?
Right on!
To: ZGuy
Blaming it on the batboy...
Actually, I think that makes sense. Sosa's been around a long time, and he's broken a lot of bats in games with nary a cork being found. Its still a major embarassment, though.

He is in a serious funk at the plate.
Maybe he should try a corked bat.
(Okay, I'll stop.>

I've been a Cub fan since the first game I attended at Wrigley back in 1964.
Ask any Cub fan how much they'd bet based on the June standings.
To: NittanyLion
oooo, I heard you guys are harsh on your players!!! :o)
Personally, baseball has lost it's appeal (other than to go and drink beer and have fun with friends...which, ummm, seems to get some recognition nationally for Chicago fans...hehehe...no, I don't get trashed)....I wish they would allow aluminum bats and all...they need to make it more exciting.

Or, maybe MLB isn't serious about deterring this behavior. That's my take.
BTW, Conseco is crazy. The punishment would be worse if this was Joe Utilityplayer. Since this is the crown prince of baseball marketability, they don't even go ten games. Pitiful.

Ask any Cub fan how much they'd bet based on the June standings. I've been a Cub's fan ever since cable in the 80's brought us WGN in California..and then I moved here and I"m still a fan...but I'd never bet anything on them. The Cubs are just the Cubs, and anyone who doesn't understand that, never will...it's kinda like that bumper sticker "It's just a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand"...they could replace "jeep" with "cubs"...same thing! :o)

I heard the Cubs batboy on the radio this morning confessing that it was his fault...Oh, that's sickening. Throw the batboy under the bus now, just to salvage ol' Splinterin' Sammy.
Sheesh.

Actually, that's what I don't understand. He is looking really bad at the plate. He is not even touching the ball. There was a game a couple weeks ago in which he struck out 5 times in his first 5 at-bats. (He actually got the game winning hit in extra innings.) Last night, I saw a highlight of him totally bailing out on a curve-ball.
What good does a corked bat do if you're not touching the ball? What good does a corked bat do for Sammy Sosa when he can hit a 400 foot home run with a broomstick?
(I'll answer my own question: Baseball players are headcases and it doesn't matter if it makes sense.)

Until the Tony Dungy (and now the GLORIOUS Jon Gruden) era(s), the Bucs were the same way (football-wise, I mean). I can totally sympathize.

Yup. My sweetie is a former ballplayer and I would definitely classify him as a headcase.
I have TRULY had to brush up on my womanly arts to get what I want out of him.

Of course, with the Sox in first place, I can afford it :)
There are too many people here taking too much pleasure in dragging Sammy's name through the mud. Never mind that they don't know if he's telling the truth or not. They just want to hate him because he's popular.

MLB delayed this decision so Sosa could appeal today and still play against the Yanks this weekend. Had they given their decision earlier they would have had time to hear his appeal and he would miss the games this weekend. I'm sure ESPN gave them their marching orders and MLB said "Yes, Sir!"
