You asked why older ladies have a higher rate of C Section.
It's because the neck of the womb is tighter in older women who never gave birth. In a trial of labor, sometimes it just won't open up (dilate) during labor. So the labor would be very long and exhausting to mom and baby (in the good old days, mom might have died in labor).
Also, older women have more high risk pregnancies.
More trouble with toxemia and blood pressure and diabetes. These problems make the placenta (afterbirth) age. So the baby might out grow the placenta or not get enough oxygen and food (small for dates babies). Such a child might have to be delivered early, or get in trouble during the stress of labor (fetal distress). So they do a C Section.
