When I cancelled my service with AOL they disconnected my service right away.

I hate to see AOL go completely out of buisness....those cds they send to me constantly are great for target practice!

I use the CD's for coasters

There are dozens.......literally..........of alternatives to AOL that are every bit as good or better that cost half as much. That's my point. I've been in the computer biz nearly 20 years, so you can believe this tidbit I'm passing on to you. Once you're even the slightest bit Internet savvy, paying almost 25 bucks a month for access is utter nonsense. The ONLY reason I could ever imagine using them would be if they were the one and only ISP with a local access number. That's highly unlikely in June of 2003.

"We still use it for the "parental controls" that we can set up to try to keep the kids protected. If you know of any other program with parental controls, I'd love to know, cause I'd rather discontinue having to use AOL."

Here's one, for example:

True Vine Online

There are PLENTY of others, including the often maligned but pretty darned good MSN (which I've had for years and only keep since the whole bloody world has had that .msn email addy of mine for eight years now). Parental controls are becoming very standard. Look into Earthlink; darned good. Just make sure your alternative ISP has a LOCAL access number to avail yourself of their service.

I had this problem also, only the credit card company refused to cancel the card and I had over two hundred dollars billed on a cancelled account on a dead computer over a six month period. I must be a glutton for punishment asI'm still stupidly with AOL.( I started up this new account before all this mess happened, I'm afraid of trying to cancel again)

AOL is, and always has been, worthless.

I am something of a weather nut also, having spent a fair amount of time at sea, it's inevitable that weather becomes a large part of one's life.

I don't subscribe to any service though, but browse between UM Weather, the National Weather Service sites, weather.com and marineweather.com + a few satellite sites during hurricane season.
