"Mr. Anderson."

At the risk of being chided by some of you, I saw the original Matrix a few years ago and was bored stiff. I just didn't get it. Maybe I'll rent the DVD and see it one more time.

The scene between Neo and Morpheous (the fight scene in the dojo) was awesome. Very cool.

I just saw it tonight and was blown away. Not by Reeve's acting, though he is pretty dandy eye candy, but by the plot. The storyline really sucked me in, kind of gave me mental vertigo. I loved Fishburne's and Moss's performances. Thought they were great. I really enjoyed the movie, though it gave me the willies.

Both Matricies (or Matrix movies, I can't decide how to pluralize them correctly) are the ultimate in geek fantasy. There is a very strong line of connection between the Tolkien trilogies, D + D, and the said movies.
Somewhere down the line someone is going to make the statement that this, not the Reagan Revolution, is responsible for the strength of conservatism nowadays (oops, I just said it).

Mr. Mew said something about having a better understanding of the Matrix movies if one reads William Gibson's book Neuromancer first. I haven't read it, but he's waving a copy of it in front of me (I think this is a hint) as I type...

Smart of Mr. Mew, but watch out for the next step which is chaos theory applied to The Matrix. :-)

I saw it last night too. We watched The Matrix on DVD before we went to the theater. That was a great refresher. I agree with you about Keanu Reeves.
I liked the movie and will probably see it again. The scene with all of the Mr. Smiths' reminded me of West Side Story...

I chide you in a harsh and sophmoric manner.

The scene with all of the Mr. Smiths' reminded me of West Side Story... The first scene after Neo talks to the Oracle.

I thought Reloaded was great! I absolutely loved the first-it's a real original piece, fabulous eye candy and a great story. This sequel did not disappoint me. I'm looking forward to seeing it many times over.
Of course, I really enjoyed Final Fantasy too lol- I thought it was beautifully done, and in the tradition of the series, which are fairy tales.
I agree with your thoughts regarding LOTR and other fantasy.
Fantasy is coming into it's own, and I hope that as such it will not be tossed aside as somehow not as 'worthy' as other genres.
Anyone who's read titles such as the Thomas Covenant series can't argue it isn't every bit as good and serious as other genres.
I think attaching the label "geek" to it is an effort to minimize or diminish it.

If you like science fiction, you should at least try
Neuromancer. William Gibson is the best thing since Phillip K. Dick, during the period when he was writing
Ubik, A Scanner Darkly, and
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, not
Valis, which blows.
So far nothing by Gibson blows.

the original Matrix a few years ago and was bored stiff Dig out some of that horrible literature they used to make us read in English class. J D Bernal, J D S Haldane. Matrix is is a theatrical derivative of the real deal. All that science utopia lit from before 1929 before H G Wells finally ended up on literary skid row leads into Matrix and Matrix Reloaded and whatever the 3rd leg of the Trilogy might be. It is utopia, dystopia, anti-utopia with a fresh coat of paint.

I dare say, just think as us old farts get older, about how many kids we will meet in 15 years named "Neo", "Morpheous", and "Trinity". I think that is the worst result of this movie.

This does not explain why the movie's multicultural orgy scene looks like a Club Med luau run amok, but maybe the inspiration for that was Kahlil Gibran. That was a really stupid scene. But the rest of the movie was good.
