Yet another ridiculous article, from another ersatz foreign policy expert, deeply embedded in his $99.00 (maybe) chair from Office Depot, whose complete understanding of world politics come from having discussions with hotel service staffs overseas, and watching CNN.
I can tell a few things about the Lewisville Leader from this column. The most important being that they seem to hire anyone with a spell checker program as a contributing columnist, it is quite heartening however, that someone out there is still willing to give the seriously challenged an opportunity to make a living; for that, if nothing else, an attaboy is in order for the publication.
The premise of your columnlifting the travel ban would bring about the quick fall of Castro because thousands of American tourists would make a changeis both ridiculous and ill thought out. You assume that Castro would ALLOW thousands of American tourists unrestricted access to the Island (access which you didnt have while you were there, a fact you conveniently failed to mention), and that further, he would even entertain the idea of permitting what could in fact be something that would lead to his fall from power!
Do you think before you type Mr. LeBon?
Mr. LeBon, you went to Cuba, there are thousands of Americans that vacation in Cuba yearly, why hasnt your prediction come true already?
Did it occur to you that the Cubans, who seemed somehow less warm and curious than the Eastern Europeans, were in fact scared?
I dont know if you bother reading newspapers or even watching news on the television with any sort of regularity, articles like this one must take up fifteen or even twenty minutes out of your life to write, leaving precious little time for research, but the people you came in contact with in Cuba while you were there, enjoying the fruit of slave labor and apartheid as well as a Cuban cigar or two, are under the most severe constraints. They are not allowed to fraternize with the guests in the hotels, dine in the premises, or enjoy the beaches with their families on their days off.
Why dont you challenge yourself and write a column about the people in Cuba jailed for bringing honor to the job title you soil? Write about Cubas courageous independent journalists, and their fight to simply speak the truth as they see that truth to be, you may need to familiarize yourself with that word before setting off on the assignment.
But if you dont, dont worry there appears to be a vacancy in the New York Times for someone just like you.
Just a few more things before I sign off: the name is Elian Gonzalez, with a z at the end look it up, it was widely printed while you were watching Gilligans Island reruns a few years ago, the Miami relatives were not crazy, they were courageous to stand up for their beliefs, and you should listen to your mother, instead of embarrassing her by posting proof of her utter failure to teach you anything unless of course, crazy relatives and banana republicans along 8th Street are your mothers version of the honey she caught flies with. If that were the case, I would turn her in for child abuse.

Yes indeed, you are, Luis. I'm doggone happy to know you! And to stand with you.
hahaha!
Brilliant FRiend, your entire response is brilliant. Not that I'd expect anything less from you!
This La-Bone guy should explain to the 100,000 plus Cubans dead at the bottom of the Florida Straights, how everything would change and Castro the monster would become a good guy if we only let Cubans see what nice people we really are.
Incredible.
I would say we have a new response to terrorism as well, and it doesn't include tourists and CNN.
Nice letter, Luis. I will be interested to see if they print it.
