67% drop for the Matrix in the second week, not good. Depends on your perspective. I have yet to hear anyone that likes the movie outside of the fight sequences. And for the cheap shots the movie takes at Bush, it is nice to see it start to flop.

Since the critics hate it, I think I'll go see it:
BRUCE ALMIGHTY OFFENDS MOVIE CRITICS
Catholic League president William Donohue commented today on the way movie critics are reacting to Bruce Almighty:
Louis Giovino, the Catholic Leagues director of communications, came to work today expecting to see Bruce Almighty; the film has comedian Jim Carrey playing God. But then I noticed that so many movie critics were upset with the religious-laden ending to the flick. This made me very happy. Indeed, it made my day. Consider the following:
· Miami Herald: It lacks the insane, anything-goes energy this premise deserved and thats because the director wants to protect the feel-good fuzzies awaiting the final reel. It also has an insufferably schmaltzy, marshmallow ending.
· New York Times: It has a preachy, goody-goody conclusion.
· Pitch Weekly (Kansas City): By the time this comedy hits the top of its arc, Bruce has to pay the piper. Which means that regrettably the film closes with a surge of spiritual uplift.
· Salon.com: Given Americas religious climate the director didnt want to risk offending anybody.
· Saint Paul Pioneer Press: The movie was fine until it switches, getting all Patch Adams on us with an uplifting sermon on the importance of praying every day.
· Rocky Mountain News: It ends with a purifying third-act plunge into a font of sentiment. It is unfortunate that a reasonably funny comedy genuflects at the altar of director Frank Capra.
· Newsday: Unfortunately, religious fervor moves in and sinks the last 20 minutes. Also, You dont have to be an atheist or an ACLU attorney to be creeped out by the movies lip-service spirituality, which panders to the common denominator
.
· AP: The tone turns from wacky to preachy, so much so that the movie couldnt keep this lapsed Catholic from praying that the film would end.
Isnt it nice to know what offends movie critics these days?

I'd rather put a gun in my mouth than watch Jim Carrey do anything, except put a gun in HIS mouth!

Hmmm. Taken in an estimated $175 Million so far. They need another $25 Million to break even. The earliest showing in Glasgow is something like 10:30 in the morning and it goes right on into the night. They're showing it on two screens.
At any rate, I don't think they'll have any problems making a profit.

Bruce Almighty is horrible. I saw it last night. Jim Carrey is no longer funny. Do yourself a favor and skip it.

After reading those reviews, I may have to rethink possibly going to watch this movie. The way the commercial plays, all I figured it was going to be was another kick on Christianity and God
on us with an uplifting sermon on the importance of praying every day.
But that makes me question I may have been wrong on the first look. Probably will still wait for it to come out on DVD though

In the movie, its like the director is holding Jim Crry back allowing to not use his funniest stuff.

I have yet to hear anyone that likes the movie outside of the fight sequences. And for the cheap shots the movie takes at Bush, it is nice to see it start to flop. I liked it outside of the fight scenes. I didn't note any cheap shot on Bush although I did witness the "alleged" shot at Bush. It was a quarter of a second while an evil man- make that an evil machine-(who may or may not be trying to deceive Neo) is talking. You have to remember, the machines find humans repellent. Remember in the first film how Agent Smith refers to the human world as a "zoo" and complained about the "smell". "It's repulsive". The machines look on humans as a virus, as disease. So, although I didn't think there was a dig at Bush at all, if there was it was a dig at humans in general from a non-human perspective.
I don't know how much I'd want to read into the movie. A lot of people scoff and say there's no deep meanings in the movie. Maybe/maybe not. But then many of the same people turn right around and find this underlying meaning in the movie where the Wachowski Brothers are trying to subliminaly poke at Bush. Seems ironic, that's all. Something to smile about. Amazing what people get worked up about.

Jim Carrey has had a remarkable career for someone so utterly free of talent.

Yep, sadly Jim Carrey is becoming an older version of Adam Sandler (post Happy GIlmore) think 'Mr. Deeds' and 'Little Niki'

I don't think there has ever been a more superficial trite take on the importance of prayer than Bruce Almighty. JMHO.

Just got back from seeing "A Mighty Wind". If you like the crew in "Best in Show" go see it.

I will never understand the appeal that Jim Carrey seems to have for so many people. We were over at my hubby's cousin's home a while ago, and he put on "Me, Myself, and Irene". What file piece of filth. He was letting his children, ages 14, 11, and 7 watch it. I was appalled. We left before it was over. Ugh. Needless to say, we won't be seeing this new one.

At any rate, I don't think they'll have any problems making a profit.Be that as it may, that's a pretty big drop-off. The movie will of course make a profit, but the studio is probably banking on it to cover the losses from other projects.
