I think your analysis was true- but not any longer. It took 40 years but the Kennedy name or legend is nothing of what it used to be. It isn't even big in Massachusetts any longer where Teddy is a state joke and the most recent attempt to get one of their cousins elected to congress didn't even get off the ground. The media men and politicians who were dependent on the "Camelot" myth are dead, dying, or out of power and don't care any more. Even Sorenson admitted that Kennedy shot amphetimenes daily in his back recently (and then bizarrely said this made Kennedy even more of a great President.) In short- modern liberals no longer need the Kennedy myth and no longer feel the need to waste much capital defending him as they once fiercely did.
