Also, I don't mean to be too picky about it, but it was a bolt action 7mm rifle not a semi-auto that he shot this with. From what I'm told he was just lucky he broke the Bear's neck with it because a 7mm is really a Deer rifle, and not suitable for an animal that size.

Yeah, there has been a lot of confusion about this Bear, mostly just little details like the firearm type, exact location and shooting details. The detail I got was from an article republished on the Alaska hunting forum that included an interview with the hunter. I'll repost it if I can find it.

But everyone agrees that the Bear is real, and the photo is legit.

Yes, it is true, as the weblink states two stories were combined into one and that's what caused some confusion, the bottom line is that humans need to keep the wild animals under control whether in NJ or Alaska, the earth was created for us and we were given the authority to eat any animal, and hunting is the way to go.

Well I don't think it's been fully decided yet, but I'd be shocked if they allowed using dogs in the Bear hunt. (I'm sure you meant dogs for bear, not dogs for upland birds or waterfowl) In fact, I'm confident that they won't allow the use of bait either.

They are also setting the season way off into the the winter (Mid December) when most Bears will be in their dens already.

I don't completely understand the logic, but as I said, I don't think it's decided yet.

You know exactly what I mean. I don't see where there is any sport in turn a pack of hunting dogs loose to tree a bear, and then shoot it out of the tree. I hope you're not using those tactics in New Jersey.

I hunt Russian Boar, and feral pigs in South Texas, and I hunt on foot without dogs.
