"Anyone who tells you that my race didn't play a role in my career at The New York Times is lying to you, he said. Both racial preferences and racism played a role. And I would argue that they didn't balance each other out. Racism had much more of an impact." Oh, yes, the New York Times, haven of vicious racial prejudice.
The NYT Klavern of the KKK is notorious, and Howell Raines is the Grand Kleagle!

If we could penetrate this kind of logic, we'd go a long way towards understanding the kind of monster we've created with two full generations of PC excuse-making. Simple. It's called racism. Black racism.
To: willyboyishere
This pig-headedness reminds me of the black man on the D.C. street's reaction to the Marion Barry incident, where Barry was videotaped smoking crack with a hooker: "Well, hell, yeah, the white man made him crazy, they made him do it!!!" I can see the cover of his book now:
B!TCH
SET ME UP
By Jayson Blair

It's called racism. Black racism. I hope not. Jayson Blair could give racism a bad name.

Too bad NY has banned guns. Then Blair could have finished the job.
What a worthless piece of human scum he is.

"I want to offer my experience as a lesson, for the precipice from which I plunged is one on which many young, ambitious, well-educated and accomplished African Americans and other ?minorities? teeter, though most, of course, do manage to pull back from the brink. That precipice overhangs America?s racial divide; and the winds sucking us down into the chasm (cultural isolation, professional mistrust, and the external and internal imperatives to succeed, at all costs, to name a few) can be too strong for the troubled and unprepared?as I was?to withstand.? Couple of comments to Blair:
- What overwrought, self-indulgent crap. YOU DIDN'T EVEN GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE, DUMMY!
- He can't make up his mind whether he was:
- a brilliant, hardened hoaxer
- a passive, drug addled "victim," pushed around by forces beyond his control
From where I sit, the more Blair keep shooting off his mouth, the worse it becomes for BOTH him and the NYT. A pox on both their houses.

What overwrought, self-indulgent crap (from Blair). He can't make up his mind whether he was: a brilliant, hardened hoaxer (or) a passive, drug addled "victim," pushed around by forces beyond his control. Hey, the most important thing is....Blair is a "victim."
Victimhood is preferrable over responsible citizenship, b/c being a victim confers social status, government protection, job connections, network TV appearances, and six-figure book and movie deals.

Thank you for your very well thought through response; particularly your statement:
"It isn't that they aren't smart or talented; it is that they have been emotionally handicapped by the messages they have been fed." I've often questioned how we---as a society and a culture---find a way to undo a century of "messages" and create a new paradigm.
I'm still searching.
