Odd that Sullivan would consider Clinton's opponents stupid, bigoted, malevolent and extreme. Thinking back, I think that would be a more accurate depiction of Clinton and his clique. To describe Ken Starr thus is, in my opinion, to state the exact opposite of the truth. The Judge just might have been one of the sanest, most decent, most professionally correct people in that whole mess, under circumstances in which I'm not sure I could have been. And from what I've read recently, he still appears to be.

This review is brilliant. Andrew Sullivan has grasped the core of the modern left - they have no core.
I am a little disappointed with his take on Ken Starr. Presidents should not be allowed to lie under oath, no matter what the subject. Ken Starr's main problem, I continue to belive, is not what he investigated but in what he studiously avoided.

Syd was mortally afraid of being invited to a picnic lunch at Ft. Marcy Park. But Mr. Sullivan's point is that Blumenthal would have gladly gone to his grave defending Clinton. It is his religion, and the total destruction of conservatism, religious nad otherwise, is all that matters. The argument here is that there is nothing Blumenthal would not do, no line he would not cross, not atrocity he would not engender to defeat conservatism in America.

"Aren't you glad our mamas didn't raise us liberal? How would you like to have to spout this drivel day in and day out? :-)"
I'm thankful everyday of my life for that.
The current breed of democrats are the closest thing in our society that can be equated to those who are willing to die for their cause.
Our very own SUICIDE BOMBERS!!

Thanks to you both for directing me to Chris's disection lesson. Wow, that had to have "left a mark."
I can't imagine the snickering that the journalistic community is having at Sid's expense. Sid Viscous is not the icon of the left he once was and may now be an actual embarrasment.

To be precise, hes loyal to an institution, the Democratic Party. Fealty to that institutionand its success at all costsis the only moral criterion I can find in Mr. Blumenthals writing. Fealty to the Democratic Party and its success at all costs is the only moral criterion I can find in the whole Democrat party.

... for the first time, Sid smelled powerand the kind of amoral tenacity he respected. Once you realize this, everything else in the book is completely, utterly predictable.
Let's face it: Blumenthal was Clinton's altar boy -- and he liked it that way.

I'm sure glad it was Andy that wrote this Sid Vicious book review. Now I won't have to buy or even check out of the local library this trash from Blumenthal.
I await with eager anticipation the next review, Christopher Hitchens' evisceration of Sid's worshipful tome. With that upon my fork and Andy's under my knife, I shall sate my hunger to disembowel Sid in his master's stead. Pissing on sinkEmperor's grave will just have to wait.

"Well, you cant say he isnt direct in expressing his contempt. The worst Sid can say of anyone is that theyre conservativeby which he means not merely wrong, but evil, the inheritors of slavery and bigotry. So when he writes that "even before the inauguration, the patterns of light and darkness had rolled in," you can see exactly how he sees the world. In a strict sense, I think, Sidney is a Democratic bigot. He doesnt simply differ with the political opposition; he loathes them and believes resisting them is a moral obligation. In this, he was pitted against Republican bigots in the Clinton era, and between them, the secular religious wars almost brought the country to a constitutional crisis."
Something of a mind set -- zealot !

I go to the bookstroe and buy AM when they have the good sense to include articles by Hitch ... they deserve some support for doing the occasional 'right thing from the left'.

It wil be interesting to watch the Amazon numbers - to see how many of the Church of the Democrat will actually shell out $30 for this 'gospel.'
Andrew Sullivan's review explains a lot about Sid's zombie-like appearances on the news shows during the Clinton Admin. It was all about faith!

'Clinton Wars' is at 39 on Amazon, it was 135 last week. 'Living History' (Hillary's tome) is at 72. Sigh.
To: Utah Girl
"The Clinton Wars" means to solidify Mr. Blumenthal's place in history. He wrote memos and speeches (included here for the reader to enjoy). He gave valued advice. He came up with the slogan "One America," which, he helpfully points out, is "an updating of `E pluribus unum.' " He introduced President Clinton to a promising British politician named Tony Blair.*Snort*
What unmitigated gall this A$$ has!
