It is very naive to think that because their conventional forces are in disarray that the same can be extrapolated to their strategic nuclear force.
1) I wouldn't count out the Russian conventional forces.
2) They have other conventional armies they can use. (The PLA, the North Koreans, the Iranians, etc.)
Russia is no friend of the US. It's time to play hardball with them.

Not to mention that they have a huge civil defense capability which they also keep increasing. Supposedly they have one underground facility that can house 500,000 people for a year. I hope we have those targeted. Thay can't feed their people now, but they have enough supplies to last half a million people a year underground?

Fine. Would you mind actually answering the question?
Should Russia demand that STRATCOM permanently cease and desist from all training/readiness exercises, and initiate a first strike against the United States if we refuse to cease and desist from said exercises?

Russia is pissed because Iraq was one of the few countries left stupid enough to buy their worthless garbage.
There's nothing in this world I hate more than a sore loser.

Seems like Ivan is barking to get noticed. I'm sure their generals needed to show some testosterone after their
client state got the s#@t kicked out of it in record time.

According to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, the Russian exercises "will be linked with destroying the U.S. satellite group in order to neutralize the NAVSTAR global navigation system, the Keyhole optoelectronic intelligence satellites, and the Lacross radio-locating intelligence satellites." +++
So according NewsMax I conclude that Russian Army will shoot down actual american sattelites? It is BS definetly. But I have no wonder to read it from NewsMax.

Russia doesn't have client states. Soviet Union did.
The generals just do their job as they understand. To try to prepare in case.

Interesting did you hold in hands the AK 74 rifle or clone? Is it "worthless garbage"? Why then lot of americans buy them?
Iraqi stuff was from USSR and 30 years old. Few things from Russia which Syria smuggled them almost created scandal. Did you forget?

Hey Sparta, long time no FReply between us. How are you, my stalwart friend? FRemail me your mailing address and I'll send you a really awesome CD slideshow about the rallies we did.
Russia and China are the real Axis of Evil. The Islamic terrorists are their lackneys who do their dirty job.
Communist China does not have the number of nuclear warheads that Russia (and her Soviet partners) have. But Communist China does have the number for a conventional war with millions of PLA--after a nuclear war has taken place on American soil.
So, the scenerio of defeating the US would be like this: The "Soviets" launch a nuclear blitzkerg against hard targets in America, including our Trident subs, using 1-2,000 of their ICBMs. Their significant civil defense should be able to take care of our SLBMs and ICBMs from remaining subs and ICBM sites not taken out during their massive first strike.
Communist China would then act as the mop up with its conventional and unconventional forces invading America through any and all means.
A one-two nuclear/conventional punch.

True, or they wouldn't have their jobs. Although, methinks the muslim and Chinese war game senarios would be more prudent.

The massive air, sea and land maneuvers are being conducted in the wake of America's stunning victory over Iraq, a long time client state of Russia.A Day late and a Dollar short, from our friends, the Russkies...
Me thinks that they are so embarassed, because of the Iraq war outcome(since was a carbon copy of the Soviet strategy and weaponry), that now they will have to catch up, the attention of the world, and try to save some face, before falling into irrelevancy on the international military power level, as well as fading into the dust bin of Historical proportion of failed combat strategy.
I, think we cleaned their clock fair and square, especially when they saw the MIGHT of the USA Forces at work.
WE obliterated Afganistan in a month(it took them 10 Years, to leave with the tail behind their legs, and an unfinished business), after that we, just knocked the living daylights out of the so called "4th largest and strongest Army of the World", and NOW we are in the position(strategical I might add) to command the way Middle East operates.
Alone THAT idea, I believe, makes Putin foam at his mouth.!

Communist China does not have the number of nuclear warheads that Russia (and her Soviet partners) have. But Communist China does have the number for a conventional war with millions of PLA--after a nuclear war has taken place on American soil.A very unlikely scenario, for reasons which I will illustrate.
So, the scenerio of defeating the US would be like this: The "Soviets" launch a nuclear blitzkerg against hard targets in America, including our Trident subs, using 1-2,000 of their ICBMs.
Russia has a grand total of 706 ICBMs. So you're already short a few hundred to over a thousand.
Nice try.
Their significant civil defense should be able to take care of our SLBMs and ICBMs from remaining subs and ICBM sites not taken out during their massive first strike.
First, "civil defense" does not "take care" of SLBM/ICBM warheads. About all it does is PERHAPS keep people alive after the strike.
But what if we don't bother executing a countervalue strike?
Second, have you ever heard the phrase "Midnight Express?" Do you know what it refers to?
Thirty minutes is a LONG frickin' time...
Communist China would then act as the mop up with its conventional and unconventional forces invading America through any and all means.
Are you familiar with how hard-target counterforce strikes actually work? They use ground bursts that cause a lot of fallout.
China would be downwind of our own warheads clobbering reserve forces and command & control facilities.
And they'd be sending what was left of their army to a largely irradiated land, there to conquer...and die of radiation poisoning.

You are forgetting that the Russians never ever cut back on their strategic missiles and strategic forces. The most they ever had was 1,418 missiles in 1987; they've gone down to 706 today.

All I posted was info from stories I have read on FR and other sources. Supposedly they were doing this long ago while even while we were "selling" them wheat and the country was starving.
Remember, the Russians are like the Democrats... the elite never suffers the people do.
