I had Kazaa Lite only on this dorm computer and I am rather pissed because a roommate decided to download the regular Kazaa and put it on with all its lovely spyware.

I think he did so because we have been having lots of problems with files being in the shared folder, but Kazaa Lite goes nuts (also happening in the regular Kazaa) where the playlist acts like the files aren't on the computer even though they are. I tried re-downloading the files but that doesn't help. I also tried re-installing Kazaa Lite, but that didn't help. So, I am pretty much at a loss. It started before my roommate decided to download the regular Kazaa without my permission and I bet he thought he would try the regular Kazaa to see if it would fix it. But, it still upsets me.

There's nothing illegal in her distributing a fake of her own stuff, hacking is illegal.

Actually, some lawyers are looking into suing her and RIAA for posting the fake files. It has to do with 'luring' by making false claims or representations. Like sending an email with a misleading title. Check over at slashdot.org for an article on it.

Try uninstalling it and then using a copy of Lavasoft's AdAware to banish the .dll files and other spyware. Even if you uninstall, it leaves the spyware. Maybe your KazaaLite will work correctly once you delouse the DLLs and re-install. Can't hurt anyway.

I just got the Klez Virus in an email attachment. Norton "quaranteened" it, said it couldn't eradicate it. [Didn't use that word, exactly]

Unless you have one of those cool USB Flash RAM storage devices, you need a floppy drive. So, when the school put in these new Macs for the journalism program at my high school a couple years ago, they had no floppy drives on them.

I couldn't save anything and transfer it to another computer because of Mac's stupidity. Sure, I could use a Zip disk if the other computer had one, but most didn't.

How is that spamming? She just "released" what appeared to be copies of her music to file sharing servers - servers that are actively engaged in illegal activities. People downloaded copies of what they thougth was her music and found instead a "personal message" from Madonna.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. The people downloaded the files voluntarily - which technically was illegal for them to do. I don't necessarily approve of the language used, but they are stealing.

The other option was save it to the network, and that sometimes worked, but not always. And I would like to have a copy at home, but usually the file was too big to e-mail.

That really frustrated me when Apple decided to do such an idiotic stunt like get rid of floppies.

Actually, most of us these days use a little something called the Internet...

I couldn't save anything and transfer it to another computer because of Mac's stupidity. Sure, I could use a Zip disk if the other computer had one, but most didn't.

The stupidity is with your school system for a) not having set up a LAN; b) being too cheap to pony up the extra $10 per computer for an external floppy if they still wished to live in the past; c) being too cheap or stupid to get the iMacs with CD burners in them; or d) all of the above.

Who wants to waste a CD-R on one file?

As for online storage, at least the sites I look at are not free.

She released something that had no other value than to piss people off (including her core fan base) to the point on boycotting her. In other words it had no redeeming value what so ever, I.E. spam.

There is a difference between releasing an empty file and file that literally insults it's listeners. One is was in good taste, the other was in bad taste.

Yeah, but since macs are sooo easy to use, do you think a mac user could actually write a virus? Writing a virus is waay more complex than "right-clicking" and mac users can't even do that. hahaa (Just kidding macfolks!!!)

That's what CD-RWs are for.

As for online storage, at least the sites I look at are not free.

What are you talking about? You don't have a hard disk? Create document at school. Save to school server. Go home. Access school server from home computer, download document for further editing. Reupload finish document to school server.

I'm honestly flummoxed if that's not the way your school set things up. Unless those computers were specifically intended for some other use that would never involve the creation of documents or files of any sort.

They did have a LAN. I am not sure if I could access it from home though. If they did, I am not sure how I would. But anyway, I am at college now, so that doesn't really matter. I don't have any problems using the network here and getting files where I need them.

Good point about the CD-RW.

Like an idiot, I took the suggestion of a good friend and went to kazaaa once and got spyware downloaded to my machine without my knowledge. It inturn corrupted my Norton anti-virus main .exe file and finally caused me to give up and buy a new hard drive that made glaringly obvious that my Compaq memory was inadequate and the expansion chips had to be Compaq chips... so I took that machine off-line and started all over with a cheap used notebook.

I'm sure I didn't make all the right moves, but then I'm just another dumb consumer that now believes these musicians, their lawyers and some virus writers are fighting back DIRTY!!!

Caveot Emptor (downloader beware) or illegitimi non-carborundum (don't let the bastards grind you down so easily)

We're not mad - we just don't think Barbie's Makeup Mirror is the best place to try to compute stuff. Plus, Barbie's Makeup Mirror runs none of the specialized software I use every day. Or even a lot of the good, non-specialized stuff out there. That 3% MacGhetto can be a bitch when you're trying to get work done.

Nor do we need some leftie midget underneath to move it about for us.

Fizzer is a self-propagating worm that spreads via e-mail and the peer-to-peer file-sharing service Kazaa.
