We should say "If I pay $150 more in taxes this year I won't be able to buy milk for my children, or winter coats, or whatever pitiful story we can throw back at them (not that it would matter).
I hear that droning "don't cut spending" buzz in my ear again.
lock and load(just in case)
Exactly. They pull all these accounting tricks and we, the voters, don't dare complain because the alternative is a tax hike. Spending cuts are mentioned only during elections. After that, it's the "you'll risk our children's future...you'll starve the homeless...you'll take away vital services from the handicapped...." or whatever else if you suggest there might be a little fat in the budget we could trim. Our new Dem gov. went so far as to ask all of us to tell her where she can cut. Umm...lady, I do not get all the budget info. How would I know. But she cannot convince me that it's a lean, mean gov't run machine and the first place we would have to cut is pencils for school children or something.
I got the same thing from the county. Panic and MORE panic because of T. Pawlenty's state cut's.(the guy is a God send)
We got a survey form to fill out asking for our input as to where cuts could take place and to what degree. Everything was listed from law enforcement to road repair....however I guess I'll have to add my input for EDUCATION AND SCHOOLS (the biggest chunk) into other for it wasn't listed.
I agree with you, without being at EVERY meeting and seeing ALL the budget documents how can one even have a chance to rebutt wasteful spending?
