The Virginia General Assembly has used some of these tricks and others -- and it's run by generally conservative Republicans.

Sounds like Kansas has been taking lessons from Herr Davis and his tax and spend and tax and spend and tax and spend Kalifornicator Legislature!
Do anything but actually cut expenses.

Sounds like Kansas has learned from the masters of deceit in Kalifornia re how to present a budget full of lies and Enroning.

Well, we're not quite THAT bad, lol. But the creativity of those folks is amazing. Whatever else they do, they CANNOT raise my taxes or I might have to move.

Actually, the stuff that you posted for the most part has been tried in California and Oregon. They just want to raise taxes and continue their socialized spending programs.
Hopefully the tax payers will win in Kansas and you will not have to move.

Heck, at this rate, there won't be a state where you can escape from the socialists.
Australia is looking mighty good right about now after Nevada. ;-)

"That makes it a double slap."
Bizarre and complicated here. Virginians have generally been voting for and electing people who say they want to cut taxes and government. They did cut the "car tax," which really wasn't the tax to cut, but that's another story.
When the budget shortfall came, the Democrat governor started cutting stuff, including some DMV offices because most DMV functions can now be done online, over the phone, or by mail. But when the same people who said they wanted government cut started screaming about the DMVs, the Republican legislators who said they wanted to cut government put them back in. Then they had to use accounting tricks to balance the budget.
Like many people, the voters want government cut only when it doesn't inconvenience them any. And the legislators will cut government only when it won't cost them any votes. Sigh.

They have a Democratic Governor that sneaked in while the Republicans were having a food fight much as we are having out here in California!
The Socialist infection spreads!
The State is not near as conservative as it used to be before I left!

This was actually a pretty good editorial. Quite a contrast to the Capital-Urinal's barf they wrote today. They're still saluting the "courage" of the 16 legislators who want to raise taxes.

We desperately need some conservative press in Kansas. The media situation in Kansas is really terrible.

Yes, I thought this was a really good editorial. It was fun and it made the tax lovers out there have to think for a minute or two.

The Virginia General Assembly has used some of these tricks and others -- and it's run by generally conservative Republicans. You didn't get the memo did you? When it comes to domestic spending, Democrats and Republicans, polar opposites in their speech, are very much alike when they take action.

In Wisconsin, the Governor submitted a budget which included $450 million in Federal aids which he KNEW we would NOT GET!!
But it looked real good at the time...
Then he signed a bunch of new casino agreements with the Indian Tribes, saying that they would be worth around $250 million--however, after further review, it's, ah, maybe, ah possibly, potentially, only $150 million.
Of course, the $500K the Indians contributed to his campaign had NOTHING to do with the deal.
