But A-G, what did Mary learn, sitting at Jesus' feet? Just to sit there? No. That would be idle flesh.

There is a time for everything... a time to embrace... and a time to play in the yard, having that admonition too.

Interesting, but I confess you lost me on John / Paul. (BTW, A-G says I'm more like Paul and she more like John.)

I'm just interested in being all the being that God is fashioning for Himself and not interested in denying anything He does.

p.s.: In #330, I left out "Resurrection." A most regrettable omission!

John witnessed the Transfiguration. I can only try to imagine what he saw, and understood of what he saw. Somehow, I feel that it involved an act of Will on Jesus' part.

Thank you both so much for your posts!

Unspun, you said:

But A-G, what did Mary learn, sitting at Jesus' feet? Just to sit there? No. That would be idle flesh.

That is the point, unspun. Your reaction is much like Martha’s. I am devoted to loving God with all my heart, mind, soul, strength and understanding. I pour myself into Him. I additionally am devoted to loving my neighbor, channeling His love to others like a branch on a vine. Frankly, everything else in physical life is woefully insignificant and I don't "sweat the details."

betty boop, I relate more to John than any other mortal in Scripture. All of the Word is alive to me, and the Gospel of John is additionally, fully harmonious. I never stumble over the words, reading ahead with my spirit and confirming with my eyes. With Paul’s epistles, I cannot read ahead like that.

I see unspun as a Paul because Paul was the brilliant and careful student and bold doer. He was strong willed but submitted to Christ in everything. Paul was especially gifted to bring the Word to the Gentiles.

And honey, Martha didn't just trail after Jesus wherever he went afterward, she heeded what He said and at the proper time got up and did it, bless us all.

Paul was especially gifted....

Case closed. I'm just like Arlen. ;-)

Appreciate our discussion.

Well, as I said, A-G: What do I know??? I second unspuns's good advice: "Well then let us agree to be imitators of Christ, however He grants!" Seems that's the main thing! Hugs, dear friend.

AMEN to that, A-G!

I’m glad you pinged logos, betty boop, and hope he will offer a benediction for all of us.

logos is recovering from surgery and it'll be a while 'til his "typing fingers" can get back into action. I feel his presence, however -- I sense he's following our conversation, and will reply when he's able to.

Or not, as the case may be!

GET WELL, logos -- you are in our prayers.

The Lord Jesus Christ taught that to enter the Kingdom you must be "born again". This new birth is the generation within a person's soul of a heart turned toward God rather than the one that is turned away from Him - the one we are born with. If you receive Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior - believe HE suffered and died for your miserable soul, you are born again and you live a life of gratitude to Him for all He has done for you.

Body/soul relationship is one of eternal union of substances that was not meant to be broken in respect to human nature. The body's death is preceded by the death of the soul in its formerly perfect relationship to God. So humans are conceived in sin - their soul is dead to God as soon as a person is conceived. So when a person is 'born again' that person's soul becomes alive to God by God's grace and they receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and begin to live lives of gratitude to Him for what He has done for them - saving them and preparing a place in Heaven for them in His Father's House. But the body is not "born again" and it dies. Yet the person was created by God to be a body/soul unity - not to be separated by death. So death intrudes and the body now must die like the soul had been dead to God - so the body continues to decay until it does die. Then the Lord, who died to save us both body and soul, raises up the dead body on the last day of history and the resurrection He causes brings my body and soul back together in perfect unity and in perfect harmony with God's will.

When is the soul created? Moreland in the Body and Soul book makes the point that Scripture teaches the body and soul are created by God at the same moment. So as the father and mother conceive a child together that child's body though tiny and microscopic and though not fully unfolded is also at that very moment united by God with the eternal soul.
