"When we asked for some food, we were expecting a full British MRE, which we had heard great things about. Instead, all they gave us was one packet of a heated meal."

They were saving their fruit dumplings for the Iraqis.

thanks for the class.

You're welcome, it's a pleasure.

And please, if it is within your purview, thank Jamie for his class!

This is a great post -- thanks. We should all remember this when some know-nothing person says our victory in Iraq was a walkover. The U. S. military only makes victory look easy. The reality is that they did a lot of hard fighting. And before that these folks have been doing years and years of very hard training.

I like this piece so much that I won't nitpick about the part where he gives full credit for our victory to Marines on the ground, without any mention of the equally tough work done by the U. S. Army.

Yeah, and as long as we're giving credit to the troops on the ground, let's not forget the spectacular contribution from our friends in the UK, and the wonderful contributions from the armed forces of Australia and Poland also -- we're fortunate to have such good friends.

I'm exhausted from reading this, but couldn't tear myself away. The war has a different image for me after reading this than when I started.

American troops being first class men and first class soldiers, they never let this phase them.

Thanks for the ping, Pukka_Puck. Never have I read anything so awesome. I am so VERY grateful to Jamie Cox and all his American brothers, as well as to our coalition troops.
