Ah, but it's no longer about making up for oppression anymore. It's about "diversity." "Diversity" is now the excuse for giving special treatment to illegal aliens who not only chose to come to this country, but may have jumped the fence, like, yesterday.

May I remind your liberal simplistic self that American was not a welfare state when 'our forefathers' were coming to this country? What will you say when 20 million more come over and suck the social services dry? Or 20 million more?

Welcome to Free Republic. I think you will find few people here with serious objections to legal immigration. However, many of us do have a very real problem with illegal aliens -- especially those of us who live on the border itself.

Thanks for the platitudes & cliches. The bit about shooting immigrants really tugged at my heartstrings, even though it had nothing to do with anything I said (I realize you are new here but in the future you might want to direct such replies to the one who actually made the comment).

Regarding your specific point about what is needed, I couldn't disagree more. Whats needed is a return to the rule of law. We take in more immigrants than all the other industrial nations combined. All many of us want is that it be legal.

If that makes me a hater then fire away. But before you unload I suggest you stick around & see what those a little more knowledgable on the subject have to say.
