Conservatives by their nature are into prevention. Prevention means heading off problems before they take root. Therefore, a high value is placed upon exercising judgment before crisis.
Conservatives resist forgiving poor judgment, believing it fosters more poor judgment. Graciousness in the public purview is not something conservatives are quick to bestow. Hence, abandonment.
It happens too often in churches too. The saying is: "the Christian army is the only one that leaves their wounded on the battlefield."

I've heard that one, too.

What virtue? Self-righteousness is a sin, too, and we don't even know the whole story.Amen, sister. Amen.
And today was a good day...

Rings a firm bell. But as Christians, we are to lift our brethren up and admonish them when they do fall to sin. Paul's letters point that out quite clearly. Or did only the apostles have that right? Hey, I'm not perfect, neither is Bill Bennett. But the question is, should he be the one teaching us about anything? It's like the teacher that cheated their way through school. Should they truly be teaching our children?
Look, I'll think about giving him a slide if he stops doing it, and comes out and admits it was wrong. But I don't see that happening. Do you?

If he drank a fifth every morning, and still went to work, would it be OK? Of-course not. A person would be judgmentally impaired if that was the case.
I have a problem with the level of judgmental BS that the public often dumps of people who are in government service and even many who are not, as in Bennett's case.
On the rare occasion that I say something in this persons defense, I am attacked by people who claim I am using a Clintonian defense and am as guilty as the so called perp.
This is a situation that has run amok and is certainly doing the country and anyone else a dis-service by setting the morality bar so high that even a dang nun would have difficulty.
I am a mature male who still likes a great party and a bit of fun. At the present time I would be a idiot to run for public office. This reminds me of the child abuse crap in the 80s when so many innocent people's lives were trashed by a fearfully public.
I call the present psycho babble and related bashing the "Clinton Stain". A direct result of his malfeasance while in office.

name me some Conservatives in the gop?

Considering the way that 'conservatives' abandoned Trent Lott for paying a compliment to a fine upstanding statesman? On this 'conservative' Bennett, yes I probably won't listen to anything else he says. Or take it with a huge salt lick

Thank you. I'm tired of being compared to liberals when I defend people like this. It's just crap.
Whatever happened to compassionate conservatism? Or was that just fodder for all you hypocritical conservative Republicans who don't really care? Yes, I'm a conservative, but there's a difference: I'm not so damned afraid of being tainted by a scandal that I won't stand up for another person.

But I don't see that happening. Do you? At the present time, I do not. But I'm not swift to throw one of my own under the bus ("swift" being the operative word).
Let's see what happens.
And today was a good day...

If he wants to spend 8 mil in a casino, who cares. It just shows that money is not an isue for him. As long as hes not stealing or in a moral bankrupt thats his call. As a car freak some people think I spend to much on cars. If I want to purchase a restored 36 Rolls for 140k, who cars if I never drive it. It would be my money to spend. As long as the bills are payed and Im not deceiving anyone its my choice. Haveing said that, anyone who drops that kind of money at a casino has a real identity problem. ( my opinion) Thats nuts. But it is his money.

Why Do Conservatives So Quickly Abandon Their Own?
Because they THINK? Conservatives actually have ISSUES, several of which are key to that person's vote. It's not that they abandon the candidate, it's that the candidate abandons them.
To: Cathryn Crawford
at the first whiff of ANY scandal.Actually, his gambling has been reported often since 1996.
I hope you have the stamina to deal with all these idiots who are spouting moral outrage like a broken water main.
Personally, I am sick of them.
They are the same types who trashed Hutchinson in the last election and caused a liberal democrat to take his seat for Arkansas. I will never forgive them.

I'd love to dig in the Morality Police's closets and post exactly what I found right here on Free Republic. Don't y'all think that would be fun, guys?

As for Bennett, I could care less one way or another. I think it's the Left's attempt to discredit Conservatives, especially Conservatives who are pointing out the cancer known as Education and the powerful NEA. I don't know any Conservatives that have a problem with Bennett gambling. I think we'd prefer he didn't, but like I said...it's his life.
To: TLBSHOW
Thanks...I was wondering where you've been. I haven't seen you around too much...
