"Debra Ferguson says her daughter ``is going to have to stay in jail and learn her lesson.''"

Why would a rational adult take a "brat" on a cruise?

Well now she will be able to make new friends in jail. I am sure being 20 she be the "Princess" of her cell block. She undoubably will learn the "Joys" of Lesbian Love for the next several years. When she gets out will become a female biker's bitch and leave happily ever after.

"Sounds like pop is a bit of a whack job himself. "

If his daughter acts this way after being around this guy then I don't blame the father for talking big even if he can't follow through.

"I hope whatever punitive damage this twit has to pay is enough to cover the cost of the 120 agents, as well as reimburse the cruise line for their troubles and expenses. "

With what? She was living with her parents.

"Based on personal experience I'd have to say some grandparents are just as bad, if not worse, enablers. And they don't even have to live the the consequences of their actions. "

Yep, its the grandparents job to spoil the children and give them back to parents to fix it. It's punishment for what they went through when the parents were teens. (or so I hear..I'm only 25 with two very young ones myself.)

"THe daughter is a loser and so is the mom. Now that the daughter is in deep deep hot water, the mom is trying to distance herself from her own daughter by abandoning her in jail. How low can you get? How do you even take sides in this? They're both trash. Throw them both in jail....and the boyfriend too."

You think she should bail her out of the situation she created on her own? The mom is smart enough to see that the girl deserves her punishment.

"After all, when's the last time you saw a cat die of starvation in a tree? "

You did make a good point.. but I once had a cat that stayed in a very high tree for 3 days without food or water. Hubby had to borrow a truck with a lifter thing on it from the cable company to get her down.

"Sounds like 'Mom' did a s#i++y job during the first 19 years. "

Sorry but mom can't always be the blame for every stupid thing people do once they are adults. This girl was 20 and is a adult even though she doesn't act like it.

It is simply a safe bet to say that she lacks any and all maturity that you would expect out of at least a 16-year-old kid. We can also bet that she has had a alcohol or drug problem for the past five years too.

My last bet is that she gets a decent lawyer, who brings in a mental doc to examine her. They will say that she has issues...and work a deal with the DA. She will get 3 months of treatment at some in-house mental facility, and get five years of probation (she will fail the probation anyway...count on that deal).

I have not wasted a lot of time reading about this, or this family. But, on the surface, it seems their problems go back a lot further then a poorly timed cruise and a poor choice of current boyfriends.

Are we really talking about a parent in this society who intends to hold their (adult) child responsible for their own decisions?

We're going to have to lock up all the feathers, because they're real dangerous - I could be knocked over by one!

You're right. The sentence is ambiguous. But then very few journalists are ever accused of fine writing or even careful writing.

I'm guessing that Ferguson's little stunt cost us taxpayers somewhere around a quarter million. It makes my blood boil.

Dad's a classic enabler. Mom has the brat's number.

The dad is very odd. On one hand, yes, he is an enabler. On the other hand, he created the mess by dragging his idiot daughter along with him when she didn't want to go--he's going out of his way to create drama. What a mess, no wonder the girl is so screwed up (not that it changes the fact that she deserves serious prison time)...

The mom in this story might have her faults, but her response to her wayward daughter's misadventures reminds me of my father. Dad got the 3AM phone call from the police telling him that I had been caught trying to drill a hole in the town's water tower and was incarcerated in the city jail. His response? "Let him stay there tonight - maybe it'll teach him a lesson. I'll pick him up about noon tomorrow"

I still hear that story just about every time I see a friend of my father's.

Her face is highly asymmetrical. There is something funny going on here that is probably mirrored within. I don't know much about FAS, but it sounds like you are probably right.

It is always tough being a parent. It is extremely tough being a parent with a very disturbed child/woman daughter like this. My condolences & prayers go to them.
