The Puerto Rican authorities will just let them all go.

Here's an article about 4 Puerto Rican, terrorist fire-bombers they caught 1 month prior to 9/11. They let them go for 'no probable cause'.

4 Protesters held for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at Navy on Vieques

These riots on Vieques today are taking place precisely because they have never punished any terrorist acts by Puerto Ricans on Vieques prior to these.

They don't make an example of them. They cover them up instead.

The American public isn't supposed to know that we gave in to the terrorists in Puerto Rico.

Especially, when this administration is bragging about how tough they are on terrorism.

It might make them look like a bunch of hypocrites and liars.

...these animals must have studied at the same zoo that the rioters in south central LA attended.

I don't think so. Even an animal knows you don't $h!t where you eat. These creatures are something lower down the evolutionary chain.

The residents of Puerto Rico pay into Social Security, but they don't pay federal income tax.

If any federal income tax is inadvertently withheld from their paychecks, they get every penny back except what should have been paid to Puerto Rico.

Bloody, ungrateful, Marxist, free-loading leeches.

Every dime of their economy has been stolen from us, the U.S. Taxpayers, behind our backs.

Then they have the gall to burn the American Flag and destroy more property paid for by the U.S. Taxpayers.

"Meditate on Free Republic's mission statement for awhile."

Poohbah, Free Republic is a Conservative Forum.

Identifying the squandering of billion$ of U.S. Taxpayer's hard-earned dollar$ by our pandering politicians and trying to put a stop to it is a key, Conservative mission.

I would be hard-pressed to site an instance where our pandering politicians have squandered so many hundreds of billions of the U.S. Taxpayer's dollars for less in return than in Puerto Rico.

If you're for the continued squandering of billions of the U.S. Taxpayer's hard-earned dollars in Puerto Rico, every year, I humbly suggest you're the one on the wrong Forum, Poohbah. ;^)

I worked in San Juan PR for a year. It was my experience that virtually all of the people that could make Puerto Rico a great place got sick of it a long time ago, and moved to NY.

Everyone talked about the "Brain Drain" when Hong Kong was taken over by the Chinese, well PR has had 2 generations of that. Now if you want hard working honest and responsible Puerto Ricans, you have a better chance finding them in New York City than in San Juan. Not that there aren't honest people there as well, but the percentages are much lower now than they would have been a generation ago.

The only people I saw working in San Juan were the ruling class (it's a very banana republic sort of place) and Dominicans who came to PR to get jobs.

And if you really want to see what PR is all about, try going to an R rated Matinee in San Juan on a Saturday. You'll get a good look at the next generation of Puerto Ricans.

So when everyone gets all in a tangle over the state of Puerto Rico, just remember that the best of Puerto Rico left a generation ago or so, and we're still siphoning off the top 5% every year.

I agree that Puerto Rico's "ruling class", as you call them, keep the best jobs, positions and the most lucrative concessions in Puerto Rico for themselves and their families. That's also true of the opportunities for higher education in local Puerto Rican Universities, Medical and Dental Schools.

The very first example of this flagrant nepotism most visitors to the island encounter are the Sky-Caps at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. They're all related. That's one big, extended, Puerto Rican family. Those folks are literally born or marry into those jobs.

It might be the same for the operators of the airport's multi-level parking garage.

You'll experience this phenomenon all over the island.

It's true that someone bright and capable, that's not born or is unable to marry into the 'right' family in Puerto Rico, may be forced to move to the United States for their educational and employment opportunities.

Something else you should be aware of was the Puerto Rico Department of Correction's practice of offering convicted criminals a plane ticket to the United States in lieu of jail time on the island.

Needless to say some of these convicted, Puerto Rican criminals saw this as an opportunity at a 'fresh start' at building their very own criminal empire in the United States.

Just so you know that every Puerto Rican-American you might meet in New York isn't necessarily one of their 'best and brightest' that left voluntarily. They might just as easily have been handed their plane ticket by the Puerto Rican Dept. of Corrections and escorted to the plane by the Puerto Rican Police Department.

The authorities in Florida were the first to 'freak-out' when they discovered Puerto Rico's secret, island, 'crime reduction plan". ;^)

Of course it was hardly reported in stateside newspapers. Just another example of Puerto Rico's undying gratitude to their U.S. Taxpaying benefactors, in the United States, that's better off covered-up.

LOL!

At the moment, it appears that the Naval base at Roosevelt Roads will close.

I'd love to see these 4000 soon to be uneployed Puerto Ricans show up at the next Vieques protest.

Skeeter, what's more likely to happen is these 4,000 will be joined by the Vieques protesters, the Cuamos, Sharptons and Jacksons in protesting what they've already called the Navy's punitive and unfair closure of the Naval base at Roosevelt Roads.

Just wait and watch. The behavior of these Marxist, 'free-loading' leeches is extremely predictable.

When ABC's John Stossel interviewed U.S. Congressman Jose Serrano, Serrano said that Bush would buckle to the pressure applied by the stateside, Hispanic voters, with an election coming up, and force the Navy to stay against the better judgement of Admiral Natter, Chief of the Atlantic Fleet.

Personally, I believe Serrano has our 'Panderer in Chief' pegged perfectly.

Base Yes, Bombs No: Do Vieques Protesters Want It Both Ways?

From your article:

Serrano says the protest was only about Vieques, not about the base in Puerto Rico. He says the Navy wants to close that base just to punish the protesters. "They say, we'll fix you. We're getting out. And we're taking everything," Serrano said.

I suggested that funding a bombing support

Serrano said, "One could argue that half of the military budget has been a waste of money for a long time."

He says the military shouldn't have any say in closing the base.

"The military doesn't speak in this country. The military keeps quiet," he said, adding, "Let Congress decide if it wants to close that base.

He doesn't thing that will happen. With the presidential election coming up and everyone courting Latino votes, he says the Navy will stay put.

"When the president realizes that it's getting close to 2004, and this becomes another Latino political issue again, he's gonna tell them, you don't have to go. And they won't go," Serrano said.

He may be right. With votes at stake, politicians may spend millions on a base the Navy doesn't even want.

With the coveted latino vote at stake, I guess we'll see who'll get the last laugh.

Somehow I don't believe it will ever be the U.S. Taxpayers that will be laughing last. We always get screwed in the end.

Can't be Castro. According to jimmy carter and Tampa, Florida former Mayor dick greco, Castro is the paragon of virtue. They would much rather Castro be President of the U.S. than President Bush.

For that matter, so would the democrats.

The sad thing is the 'new' Republican Party would probably run Castro for President instead of Bush, if they thought Castro would win them a greater percentage of the Hispanic vote.

Hey, anything to win that Hispanic vote, right?
