I beleive there is a direct coraltionbetween Indian gaming openign up in states and more poverty in black communities.
I live in Milwaukee, and the advent of an Indian casino downtown has caused an extreme re-distribution of wealth from the Black community to the Indians. And our new governor , Bingo-Doyle is being bought and paid for by the tribes in a huge expansion of gaming by the Indians.

I am guessing that the New York Times wanted to run this story with the headline... "More People Who Can Not Afford Children Are Continuing To Have Them At Taxpayer Expense", but did not want to suprise their readers with the truth.

You beat me to it. How many of these people who are having "extremely poor" children were "extremely poor" before they had the kids? What kind of kids did they think they would get? Rich ones?

The other night I watched J.C. Watts give a speach at GOPAC.
He was being installed as the new chairman. If more black people would start listening to his message, I truly believe there would no longer be the need to follow this kind of statistic.
I told my wife that she was watching a future President of The United States. Her comment was "I hope so".

We shouldn't be so quick to make light of this: this is a tragedy for many of these children, as they live in truly apalling circumstances for which they are not to blame.
Standard-issue welfare, which simply encourages the degenerate conduct which causes this problem in the first place, is clearly no solution. However, conservatives should never turn a blind eye to the suffering of the innocent, even when it is at the hands of their worthless parents.

But, the biggest POVERTY they are living in is a MORAL one....and people like Edelman continue keeping them on the PLANTATION, and perpetuating the problem....I think that's the real problem people have.

MTV (or it's ilk) and the glorification of idiotic behavior is a major playa in this equation.

The New York Times conveniently leaves out the fact that 7 out of 10 black children are born out of wedlock. Is that Bush's fault, too?Oh well, who gives a d@mn--blacks will continue to vote 95% anti-Republican, regardless.

Seriously, Marian Wright Edelman is an anarchist and a documented liarWhich is why Queen of the Damned from Chappaqua has always considered Edelman to be a mentor and role model.

I wish they (the people who conducted this study), met with the parent(s) of these extremely impoverished kids and ran an IQ test as well as tested them for basic English, math and reading skills. They should then ask the parent(s) what marketable skills they could provide a prospective employer.
Then they should do the same for impoverished white kids and parent(s).
I'll bet they find that stupidity breeds stupidity.

My point is that the definition of "poor" touted by these organizations is about the most broad definition of poor ever conceived by man.
If you are willing to accept the help of other people, it is literally impossible to starve to death or die of exposure in the United States.
For thousands of years, the definition of poverty was being unable to procure meals regularly.
The definition of poverty has been dumbed up.

You've got a point. Blacks need to be more open to much needed change in their lives if they're going to be uplifted. Their poverty is self-perpetuating because of the way that they have chosen to live their lives. That's just a simple fact. Their innate hatred for the Republican Party is also unfounded. Many blacks are very religious, but would rather support the amoral Democrats than the much more morally conscientious GOP. It just doesn't make sense. They need to stop pointing fingers and blaming everybody else for their problems. I know there have been injustices; nobody can deny that, but that doesn't justify blaming everybody else for their problems.

Wow, someone actually said something that makes since and shows they have a heart.
Instead of just degrading the parents why not start thinking of the children. That's why a lot of blacks grow up despising the conservative view. It shows no compassion and no heart.
