One of the little buggers had to escape from someone's lab some day. Perhaps that day has indeed come. We're going to see a lot more "strange" in the years/decades to come.

The SARS virus resembles corona viruses from other species. Has the lethality with respect to say, farm animals, been established?
What if this was designed as a universal virus that would affect both humans and their livestock?

The rumor in China is that the U.S may have intentionally spread the disease.

The rumor in China is that the U.S may have intentionally spread the disease. More likely it would be al Queda.
To: NP-INCOMPLETE
I also read that nonsense on several newsgroups. One even claimed only Muslims were infected with SARS.
To: jerseygirl
I doubt the chinese that have died were muslims.

I think the vile of germs, the dr. that died from sars had, was accidently opened at the wrong time, before it got on the jet bound for America. Any other story don't jell. This is a man made virus even if they don't want to admit it.

The Chinese have loosed a coronavirus bio-weapon on the world in a real terrible mess-up. They really released in on their own country -- and on all of Asia -- hope it stays there to ravage the Chinese and their economy.

Later, on April 12, Kolesnikov told a conference in the city of Irkutsk that the virus was a mixture of measles and mumps--one that could not occur naturally. I've seen this quote repeated many times, but have not seen any critical examination of what he said. His view does not seem to have anything to do with the coronavirus.

It produced SARS in Monkeys in the Netherlands trials.
I find the Hong Kong microbiologist words suspect as he had to know about his eminent peers being knocked off around the word prior to this epidemic.

Right now, the rumor-mongers on the Chinese nets have it split pretty much 50-50 between either the U.S or Muslims
To: NP-INCOMPLETE
More likely China spread it initially in their backyard as a cover.

If this virus was released by the U.S there would be hell to pay.

The most infamous Russian bioweapon disaster occurred in 1979 in the city of Sverdlovsk, where a small amount of leakage from an anthrax weapon at a Soviet defense ministry facility is estimated to have killed between 105 and 1,000 Russians.
Here is another interesting "pneumonia" that occurred in Sverdlovsk back in 2001. Sound similar?

Sverdlovsk was the Soviet BioWar center that had the accidental anthrax release that killed 70 or so.
PNEUMONIA, UNKNOWN CAUSE - RUSSIA (SVERDLOVSK): REQUEST FOR INFO

One hundred & eighty nine residents of Kachkanar, in Russia's Sverdlovsk
Region in the Urals, 90% of whom are children, have contracted an
infectious pneumonia whose origin is unknown to doctors.
The outbreak began in a number of town schools in late September [2001],
sources in the sanitary and epidemiological department of the Sverdlovsk
Region told Interfax. The disease's origin is still unknown, but it is
curable.
Epidemiologists fear that some of the infected have not been reported.
Early phases of the disease look like an average upper respiratory
infection, and patients come to see the doctor only after the symptoms
develop into a grave case of pneumonia.
Measures against epidemics are being taken in Kachkanar schools.
Bactericidal lamps are being installed, and additional instructions are
being given to school doctors.

More likely China spread it initially in their backyard as a cover. Would they have a vaccine - for the Party members?
To: Tailgunner Joe
See thread about virus living for 24 hours, unlike others.
To: Domestic Church
Why would they intentionally spread this in their own country? They may not care about the people, but the disease is hurting their bottom line, profits. If this virus is indeed man-made, chances are its spread by either the U.S or the terrorists.
