Some us don't determine our views by partisan poltics. I would (and did) oppose Clinton when he pursued the same policies. Your view seems to be determined by whether "your side" is in power.

We are paying to put out oil fires, we are paying for power plants and water plants. We are bringing in food and medicine. So you are saying the Iraqis dont want these things? Then when they are elected they can turn them off.

And if the iraqis dont want our charity, they an always pay us back for them.

It is. you are arguing a non-sequitor. Our organizing and paying to aid in Iraq's reconstruction does NOTHING to impede their democratic future, it helps it. Do you argue with those who give you christmas presents about where they bought them?

If we do nothing to aid Iraq, we get criticized.

If we do something to aid Iraq, we get cricized. And God forbid we give ANY contracts to the best American firms, instead of Saudi, French or Russian firms (leave aside that the US firms are the best-in-class firms).

Nobody has given a single coherent reason at all why the US firms arent the best in the world at this. They are the best, and that is why they were picked - no other reason.

The only way to avoid criticism from the Left is for Bush to hand over all US sovereinty to UN and do absolutely nothing that would in any way improve America's economic, political or national security position. Goofy but true!
