I just don't get the Arab thought process. We freed them and before the tank engines have time to cool, they're saying we're colonialists? We're restoring water and electricity, and the U.S. is the bad guy? They want a free handout from us, won't do the work themselves, but don't want the U.S. to stay and help? Screw 'em, let them rot. And in the meantime, an islamic reffermation seems to be a distance dream.

Inside the mosque, Sheik Ahmed al-Kubeisy addressed his remarks to Americans. "You are masters today. But I warn you against thinking of staying. Get out before we force you out," he said. Uhhh, yeah. Just like Saddam's troops did. Listen Sparky, we're not leaving until we destroy the WMD, which was the reason we showed up in the first place.

I just don't get the Arab thought process. This guy was a Sunni Saddamite the other day. Affiliations need to be checked.

Some people have a very nasty way of saying 'Thank You'.
All of a sudden they get brave and bite the hand that feeds them.
Don't tread on the goodwill of the American people - or you will live to regret your stupid decisions.

Could be the baathist party instigating this. They like welfare recipents have been conditioned to expect hand outs.

We have got to get that electricity back on. They think it is our fault it is off.
To: sbw123
They may to some extent be a bunch of knee-jerk reactionaries.
On the other hand, considering the screwing over that Bush the First gave them, I don't blame them for not trusting us. All they have is words from us; the average Iraqi (due to the still unstable situation in much of the country) still has not seen much in the way of U.S. aid. Now they hear that the sanctions may not be dropped soon (though that isn't our fault, they probably don't understand that as a legal matter).
As soon as the aid & rebuilding processes are in full swing, I believe they will start listening more to the people with trucks full of bread than the wackos in the mosques.
Of course, we could expect resistance from the Sunnis for quite some time... Just as Southern whites formed the Klan in order to preserve their position of superiority after the Civil War, we should naturally expect Sunnis to band together to protect their position of superiority. I'm not sure what to do about them---preventing them from taking over but making sure they are not the victims of a backlash is probably about the best we can do.

Less than 10 days after the fall of Saddam Hussein, thousands of Iraqis marched in downtown Baghdad on FridayWe must appreciate this for the beautiful thing that it is, free Iraqis "choosing" what to protest, a good sign I would say.

A.N.S.W.E.R. sponsors and finances the anti-U.S. protests here and Iran does the same thing in Iraq. If anyone asked for birth certificates at those staged protests, I'm guessing most of the participants would be Iranian and on their payroll. They KNOW they have to sow discontent now because if Democracy takes hold they'll never recover. Iran is scared witless. Ditto for Syria. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc.
But GW's shown it ain't too damn smart to take him on in a game of chicken. Relax, I'm betting we predicted all this and we'll just keep plugging along doing our jobs UNTIL one of the religious zealots steps out of line . . . then he'll be neutralized.
It's great being in Iraq. We can take the terrorists on in their backyards instead of ours. I say bring 'em ALL on! Let 'em protest their asses off! Let 'em stir up those who are willing to be stirred up! We're gonna have to take them on sometime, somehow, somewhere.
Let the party begin.

Bunch of lousy ingrates...Whoa. The mosques like to stir folks up but those guys weren't speaking for all Iraqis. Just making noise. There are 5 million in Baghdad alone, this was a few thousand, let em have their fun, it's a new feeling for them.

These folks are no more representative of Iraqi sentiment than are the thousands of "peace" protestors in America. This "rally" also included a call for an Islamic government, which just ain't gonna happen. Things will start settling down soon when normalcy returns, and the real debate on government begins.

Iraqis Rally to Demand Swift U.S. Pullout Fat chance. We'll be staying for quite awhile, IMHO. And, our new Iraqi military bases will be quite nice once they are built.

Don't tread on the goodwill of the American people - or you will live to regret your stupid decisions.I agree with you, and think the French are/may beginning to learn this. It will take them a decade to figure out why we are no buying their cheese and "whine." When they try to market their sh!tty Peugeots here, that crap will rust in their dealer's lots.

Could anti American countries be infiltraiting Iraq? Stirring up the natives is an old tactic. I am for giving all of them lessons in manners. They might at least say thank you to our dead and wounded of giving them the freedom demonstrate.

1000 People out of how many millions?
Should we really judge the mindset of all the iraqis by a group of only a 1000?
Should we be judged because of the illogical ramblings of the liberal hippies that don't think war solves any problems? And that controlled violence against an evil regime cannot bring about more good than bad? I'd rather not be judged on the basis of only their stupid actions.
