I think we all know how hush-hush this society is. I wouldn't be suprised if the total was 25 times what they're publishing.

Think of SARS as (for all you Stephen King fans) as "The Stand Lite." It is an amazingly infectious bad viral infection with a 5% mortality rate.

The ChiComs are deceitful sacks of feces. The epidemic is raging across China, and their complete dishonesty is going to cause a major recession in their economy.

Me? I won't even go to a Chinese restaurant at this point. No way am I going to go to Manhattan from my Long Island home.

Those cases hidden are in Chinese military hospitals.

Were they the first? Is that the reason for the silence?

I hear you. I am just trying to get my daughter through this school year (6 more weeks). Barring any major breakthrough, I am doubting she will return for the next year, I have seen many illnesses run through her classroom this year. I just can't take the chance, I'll start homeschooling next year.

Bad year for viruses. I get vaccinated against the flu yearly and have not got the flu for 20+ years. However I got 4 colds this winter, a new record.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's Communist Party leadership, reacting to World Health Organisation criticism that Beijing is not reporting all cases of the SARS virus, has promised there will be no cover up, newspapers said on Friday.

"There must be no delay and no deceit in reporting," state newspapers quoted the all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee as saying after a special meeting chaired by party boss Hu Jintao on Thursday.

The nine-man committee also promised greater international cooperation on the disease, which first appeared in China in November and has now spread about 25 countries. It has killed more than 160 people globally and infected more than 3,500.

It looks like the article should have said "cases" instead of "deaths".

Otherwise, an excellent article. China has put the world at risk.

do you think it is a mistake? Maybe I should ask to have it pulled. I thought it was about new info about deaths.

ChiComs couldn't tell the truth if their lives depended on it. Which it does.

No deceit in reporting? Hey start with all the millions in bribe money you gave Bill and Hillary and the DNC in trade for the Crown Jewels of our nuclear and missle technology!!!

In Hong Kong, the death rate is 19% of final despositions (deaths + recoveries).

Except in Canada where, for some reason, the rate is about twice as high:

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/18/science/sciencespecial/18INFE.html?ex=1051848000&en=d21795ebcb3965cd&ei=5004&partner=UNTD

Worldwide, SARS is blamed for 165 deaths, for a death rate of 4.9 percent, the W.H.O. reported.

But for unknown reasons, the death rate in Canada is about double; 12 of the country's 126 cases have been fatal, a death rate of 9.5 percent.

Don't Fear The Reaper

All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man...

I read somewhere where SARS is being overdiagnosed (colds and flus being misdiagnosed as SARS) and that SARS death rate may be a lot higher than 5%
