I put myself through university entirely on my own. It was the best thing my parents ever didn't do for me. :)
I also funded one of my sister's first year of college. Other than that we each paid our own way.
Nothing neaderthal about it unless you'd pay for your sons but not your daughters. However, even if you did do that, your daughters would be better off learning to fend for themselves.

Not really. Last I checked the Taliban is in ashes.

Oh...I'll send all them to college...and no, the boys won't go to Reed or Bennington to fart around either.

I like to ask for the names of three:
* Great women scientists. I'll name one: Madame Curie.
* Great female composers. I'll name one: Cecile Chaminade.
* Great female engineers. (?)
* Great female explorers. (?)
* Great female philosophers. (?)
* Great female mathematicians. I'll name one: Sophie Germain.
Women are the nurturers, the home-makers, the civilizers of men.
But something in the male make-up (testosterone?) makes men the builders of the world.
I once had a (female) summer engineering intern who openly remarked that she 'admired' men because of all we had built. She confessed to me that she could not imagine herself conceptualize and make concrete advances like airplanes, television, computers, etc.
===============
Feminists will complain that for many years, women were discouraged from technical (science, math, engineering) education. For several decades, those barriers have been removed. Where are all the female Nobel nominees since, say, the 1960s? When may we expect to see 50% of the Nobels in the 'hard' sciences given to women?...

The topic was presidential elections (i.e.)"ruling the world"- hence my reference to national negatives vs. NY.
I also referred to circumstances which would only increase her national negatives, unknown at the time of her 2000 election. Do you have reason to believe that she could win a national presidential election?

Who determines if a jury is "impartial".
Nobody is doing it now. That's the point. A long time ago judges routinely did their best to inform the jurors that they were to be impartial and what that meant. In doing that judges upheld the Sixth Amendment.
Where do you get impartial juries?
Again, it's not being done today and that's the point. The jury is selected from a jury pool -- that's still how it's done. What isn't being done is the judge aren't giving the jurors instructions that include adherence to the Sixth Amendment.

If women ruled the world, it would probably be more peaceful. A peaceful long slow slide into decadence and another Dark Ages, perhaps worse than any previously known. Women should be in government but as a minority. They always have plenty of power at the ballot box anyway. I think it is in their own best interests to expect male dominance of public institutions and leadership roles. But it is very valuable to have a substantial permanent minority of sharp and practical women to temper the male majority in legislatures and on public boards of all kinds.

of course i do. i was pointing that out specifically. i know that there are plenty of conservative and sensable women. they just aren't femisnist, which get more tv time than the smart ones.

so is southpark. "crude" doesnt mean it's not right sometimes. its ok if things are crude, it's where we came from, and it's where we go to. if we didnt have crude, we wouldnt know refined... and the world would be boring! hae you eer heard a funny "clean" joke told by a coworker? they are few and far between. i understand you felt offended by it, but it's part of life. which is why i say it was "pc" to attack it like that.
To: MacDorcha
You misunderstand "pc".....yes Southpark is Crude.....and by the way, have you ever learned about capitalization?

No, but I don't have any reason she could win a national elecetion but then I don't have any reason to believe she could not win a national election either. Many people were stunned she could win the Senate seat she has in a state where she was never a resident and had no prior history.
I rather doubt it but I wouldn't discount the possibility so glibly.
To: goodnesswins
sure i have. and im sorry, but the second one attacks something based on it's offensiveness (instead of letting people of intellect just shun it while people like myself laugh) it becomes that whole "you cant say the word 'nigger' because you arent black!" which in my opinion is PC bull crap, cause you hear rappers say it, and you see kids in highschool calling each other that as a greeting. ok, it offended you. does it really matter though? the post is there, and you dont have to continue reading it. it's an old joke anyway, you havent heard it by now enough to be numb of it, you havent been around very long...
To: MacDorcha
Well I agree on the pcness of the "n" word....which I will not say/print.....but equalizing crude to it does not work. PC isn't about "offensive," it's about controlling people's speech....BTW, today, here at FR someone got their account halted because they used the words "white trash." Figure that one out.

I will not live in a world where I am always wrong and every Monday I have to take out the trash. Me neither. My trash day is Thursday.

Wow. But you still like us, right? There is a world of difference between liking you, and being comfortable with you being in charge

if they used it to attack someone, i could see why. and im sorry, but to me its a matter of offense, not the actual word. something offensive is offensive. now, i willtry to control my tounge around anyone who may be offended by what i have to say. but once it's said, it's not right to attack it, especially when it's just a joke. remember trent lott? do you honestly believe a joke at a private party was worth his reputation and career? an offensive term is offensive only to those who see it as such. and yes, i would equate the two. one is a word that is meant to be disrepectful to a person for their colour. the other is a sentence that is disrespectful to a person for their gender. it isn't that different
To: fr_freak; Billthedrill
This does not necessarily mean that participation of women causes prosperity. It simply may be that societies that repress women are more repressive in other ways as well, and true prosperity would be difficult to achieve in such an atmosphere. The US did not give women the vote until 1920, and the US was the most prosperous country in the world at the time.

Am I too neanderthal? No, I agree. There's no sense in forking out major big bucks for them to go to Princeton or Duke just to get an accounting degree. Besides, the prestigious name private universities only really "matter" at the graduate level, and even then, only in certain circles in certain professions. You can get your daughters an excellent university education right there in your state at a public university. Heck, I went to community college and then transferred to NCSU and got my BA and my parents paid for everything, no loans, no scholarships...and lucky me, I didn't have to work at the same time.

No, toilet seats would be welded down. And all the men here know what would happen then. Men would continue to pee standing up, and the ones who can't be bothered to lower the seat, wouldn't bother wiping the splash off it either
